School got cancelled today for my son

but the roads are not bad. We got a little bit of snow last night, but nothing major. Less than half and inch. We are supposed to get some bad weather this evening, but that would be after school is out. My son's school has a new system that calls every child's house and plays a recording giving out information about school closings or for upcoming events at the school. The phone rang at 6am to let us know. How do you find out that your child's school is closed? We can find out by that system now, but before you had to watch the bottom of the news or listen to the radio.

I used to have to sit out in my car to listen for cancellations on my the radio but now I just go to my local papers website and it will be right there. Very convienent for me and I get to stay warm.

OPur local news channels have scholl and business closings scrolling across the bottom of the screen during the news broadcast. We have email notices available as well as text message and automated phone calls about school closings as well here in Minnesnowta. We had a High School near me close yesterday due to a smell of natural gas. Turned out to be a fluke as it was an odor from an ice machine being repaired. The HS kids were bussed to a nearby elementary scholl until a decision was made. I don't have kids anymore so I don't sign up for the notices.

School was closed here today as well. We have no call system, we just watch the news and watch the scroll at the bottom of the screen. Our roads aren't that bad either, least I don't think so...cars are flying past. Closing were due to ice on the road and with the freezing temps they aren't going to melt.

wow, that i really cool, hope we have too, here in kuwait i dont have any knowledge how they tell to parent that thier school is cancelled, what i know is just a vacation but cancelled never heard before. because the weather is no so bad, like other country that lot of rain, snow and ect.

That would have been nice, to get a recording when school was canceled. When I was in school, it was a Christian school, and quite small. So all we had to do was watch the news (I'd get up at 5am just to see if anyone had canceled yet), and if a certain city had announced they were canceling school, then we were to take that as though we were canceled as well. Which I didn't mind. I lived right next door to the school, so it wouldn't have been hard for me to go, I just didn't want to!

The local radio tells us if it is canceled. Funny thing here is that the road are totally covered and it is -20c and there still is school. Sometimes I never understand why it is canceled and others I think it should be and isn't. I think they may be home tomorrow though. There is a forecast of 10 cm tonight. Can't wait for winter to end. Only a few more months to go. WAHHHH!
