Anyone out there have their child in any kind of program or group since entering school (age five and up)? Is there funding? I'm asking because so far I haven't found anything, but you never know. Someone may know something out there that can be helpful.

After a child reaches school age, the school district are required to provide the services free of charge. In the USA, a child can received speech, special ed courses, social skills etc all through the school district. Sometimes the school will try to make you run around so they don't have to dip into their funds. But it is available. I don't know the rules in Canada but assume it should be similiar. IN the USA we also have soemething call the Regional Center that offers free services even after school age. Check it out or call and ask them for information to one near your home. Have you checked out the autismsociety.org? This website has lots of information about autism and resources as well. Good luck. Regarding the school, remember to keep on it, they will try to convince you that there is nothing else they can do. But there is!. I juts finished my meeting (IEP) Invidivualized Education Plan -- with my daughter school. The meeting was not supposed to be held until May of this year, but I insist on one becuase she has not shown any progress since the last meeting in Nov. 2007. They also insist that there was nothing else they could do about her behavior and complaince issue. Finally after several phone calls, I finally decided it was time to put it in writing and request an amendment to the IEP. Within one week of recieivng my written request, they started working and evaluating her again. Good luck.

There are lots of Autism/Aspergers support groups around. Where are you from? Where I am there is Autism Ontario which has chapters throughout the province.
