Vegan icing rose?

Anyone know how to make an icing rose that will harden and can be moved from wax paper to cake without using meringue powder? I guess the powder gives the icing a "crust" so it holds its shape. However, I'm vegan and the meringue powder is made from eggs. (also, it's $7 for a small can). The plain "butter cream" Wilton recipe icing made from butter-flavored crisco, powdered sugar, and water stays soft.

Butter cream icing always worked for me with my roses holding their shape perfectly. It's all a matter of adding more powdered sugar if your recipe is too soft. I never tried the butter flavored Crisco, just used the regular... Try looking online for different butter cream recipes... they all have different textures varying with the combo of ingredients.
