omg! i just read this on yahoo! NEW YORK - Heath Ledger, the talented 28-year-old actor who gravitated toward dark, brooding roles that defied his leading-man looks, was found dead Tuesday in a Manhattan apartment, facedown at the foot of his bed with prescription sleeping pills nearby, police said. ADVERTISEMENT There was no obvious indication that the Australian-born Ledger had committed suicide, NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said. Ledger had an appointment for a massage at the SoHo apartment that is believed to be the home of the "Brokeback Mountain" actor, Browne said. The massage therapist and a housekeeper found his naked body at about 3:30 p.m. They tried to revive him, but he was already dead. "I had such great hope for him," said Mel Gibson, who played Ledger's vengeful father in "The Patriot," in a statement. "He was just taking off and to lose his life at such a young age is a tragic loss." Outside the Manhattan building on an upscale street, paparazzi and gawkers gathered, and several police officers put up barricades to control the crowd of about 300. Onlookers craned their necks as officers brought out a black bodybag on a gurney, took it across the sidewalk and put it into a medical examiner's office van. As the door opened, bystanders snapped pictures with camera phones, rolled video and said, "He's coming out!" An autopsy was planned for Wednesday, medical examiner's office spokeswoman Ellen Borakove said. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080123/ap_on_en_mo/obit_ledger whoa how awful! i loved him in A Knights Tale and 10 Things i Hate about you! ive been waiting ever so inpatiently to see his version of The Joker in the new Batman movie! ive never seen Brokeback Mountain but it and he have been critically given the thumbs up for his performance. the family says it was an accident that he loved life. he's got a little baby daughter too. apparantly he'd been having sleeping troubles and had been prescribed Ambien. sheesh this sucks! he was a great actor!

Heard the news too. Definitely such a tragic loss. As a fan, I really do feel sad and will even be sadder when the new Batman movie in which he plays the joker launches knowing that he won't be seen in the movies or in real life anymore. The movie that I most adored Heath was "10 things I hate about you" when he played the badboy role/look, he was so adorable when he sang "your just too good to be true" to Kat Stratford. I'm really gonna miss him. All my deepest condolences to his family especially his daughter.

I was shocked too. I love Heath Ledger! And it's really sad. I fell in love with this guy in 10 Things I Hate About You - the only teen flick that I would admit to liking (sort of a guilty pleasure). When I feel blue, I watch 10 Things. I also love a Knight's Tale, The Patriot, and am very much anticipating his performance as The Joker in The Dark Knight - they say his performance was disturbingly good. He is certainly a great loss.
