Are you interested in it at all? Have you traced your family's roots? How far back did you go? What were some sources, websites that were helpful? I have recently started trying, and it is tough. There are so many sites and so many listings that it is hard to know when you've found the right person- an ancestor or just someone with the same name.

I am also interested in tracing my genealogy... but i don't think the internet will be able to help me... it will be a long and expensive process because i would have to go the the remote province where my mother was born... then to the equally remote are of my father's birth... The internet will only be helpful if you have famous relatives or ancestors... so for the likes of me... i would have to stop working to find my roots... that is what i cannot afford...

I have been doing genealogy for about 10 years. I have been tracing both my husband's and my ancestors. I have some back to the 1700's. I have gone to the local college Genealogy department where they have about all the census records for all states on tape. So those are easily searched. And, you can find marriage license for some counties in our state. I also use Ancestry.com. I started using it through the college, but haven't gotten to go there in quite awhile. So I signed up with them myself and just renewed my membership. Rootsweb.com,genealogy.com and genealogy forums are good places to find relatives. Go to genealogy forums and put in a query for a lost relative and you may find someone else that has the same roots as you and most will share their knowledge with you. Cyndislist.com is also a great place to find places to hunt. When you find the right ancestor, you will be able to trace them up to your line by the ages, family members, places they lived, etc. Sometimes it does get sort of hard with so many families naming their children by the same names. But,if you keep searching, you will find the right lineage.

Genealogy is one of my passions. I've researched my ancestry for many years, tracing them back to circa 1600s on one side. My paternal line is traced back to the 1800s. Much of it has been accomplished online. In reference to the other response, they were no body famous.....There is much to be learned online, you just have to know where to look. It's not hard at all. Start with rootsweb or ancestry.com You can also go to the state GENWEB sites. Just type in the state you are researching and then GenWeb behind it. From there you can go to individual counties. You can also go to familysearch and find a lot. The internet if full of resources.

I am very interested in it. I have gone back to the 1400's in some branches. I like familysearch.org and ancestry.com.
