I recently watched an episode were brian gets put in "jail" because they think hes a dangerous dog he was in a cell with a real dog which walks on all fours and growls like a dog how does he get treat like any other dog when he walks like a human and talks like a human? and why dont the other animals act like him?

brian talks because an actor/voice over guy stands in a room in and says brians lines into a microphone. lol ok all sarcastic comments aside. i didnt see that episode, i havent missed many but he is a cartoon and as out of whack family guy is, it only makes sense for brian to talk and do everything a normal human being does, he's actually quite intelligent as well, just nobody treats him like a dog.

quite ironic that the dog and baby in the cartoon are far more intelligent than the adults, and for some reason i forgot why i liked that cartoon so much

Why do Goofy and Mickey Mouse talk but Pluto acts like a real dog? It's a cartoon, they can do whatever they want! I love the way sometimes Brian acts like a real dog but sometimes like a human, like when Lois chased him around with a vaccum to get him to do his homework and he barked and ran away from it like a real dog would. Why is it that only Brian can understand Stewey when he talks? It's just part of the silliness and humor.

i noticed that, too. in the episode road to rhode island, they go back to brian's hometown to find his mother, who is being used as an end table. he goes up to the farmer and says "i'm the one who could talk." so i guess he is the only dog that could talk. seabreeze couldn't talk either.

I was wondering the same thing. It seems that certain people can understand certain other characters. Didn't you notice that Lois doesn't seem to hear Stewie? She treats him like a baby and nothing he says seems to provoke an answer from her. To me, it seems similar in the case of Brian.

Same reason Stewie talks and all the other babies don't. Besides Brian's cousin, i forget his name, talks and walks like he does. I wonder, how come sometimes the adults can understand Stewie and sometimes they can't

i always thought they did understand him

It's a cartoon. They can do whatever they want. They don't need to have a reason. Just enjoy it.
