Bush Plans to Use Eleven MILLION acres of Utah Land To Be Used For Oil Rigs~~

Well it looks like Bush has another "wonderful" master plan, this time to destroy some of the state of Utah's most spectacular and beautiful land....eleven MILLION acres of land to be exact for the purpose of developing oil rigs there. Here's the entire article from the Wilderness Society. (Quote) ..."President Bush is ready to plunder Utah's wildlands. If President Bush has his way, some of the most spectacular areas in Utah will be irreversibly degraded by oil rigs and off-road vehicles (ORVs). Eleven million acres in Utah's red rock canyon country are at immediate risk, and we have until Feb. 8 to speak out. This precious land is filled with breathtaking vistas, ancient cultural artifacts and dinosaur fossils, and a wide range of wildlife. Concerned people like you can put a stop to the sprawling oil and gas development and ORV use. There is no time to waste. Urge the Bush administration's Bureau of Land Management to protect this sacred land before it is sacrificed to Big Oil and ORVs! Your comment today is so important. Unless the public speaks out now, President Bush's land management team will forge ahead aggressively, with little thought to the permanent impact on a fragile, irreplaceable ecosystem. As the New York Times editorialized, "some of the trails would crisscross about 2.5 million acres of breathtakingly beautiful country that the Clinton administration thought worthy of permanent wilderness protection." So many iconic national treasures are at stake: * In Vernal, northeastern Utah, ancient cultural artifacts and dinosaur fossils mingle with a range of wildlife and recreational opportunities. * Nine Mile Canyon, in the San Rafael Swell, offers hiking, serenity and rock carvings over 1,000 years old. * In the Moab region, you'll find spectacular overlooks into nearby Canyonlands and Arches National Parks. The damage caused by irresponsible exploration and resource exploitation would be irreversible. Once an area is riddled with roads, it will never be designated as Wilderness. We are working with members of Congress to permanently protect these areas as part of America's Red Rock Wilderness Act, but in the meantime, we need you to help us amplify our campaign. Tell BLM Director James Caswell to stop the assault on public Utah land immediately. Once you have sent your message, you can help us drum up support for protecting Utah's Red Rock Wilderness by spreading the word to your friends and family, encouraging them to also send a message. The more people like you and me who take action today, the more wild places we can protect. Sincerely, Kathy Kilmer The Wilderness Society..." Here's the petition one can sign to voice your opinion about this..Remember once this land is developed, it'll be ruined forever and irreversible damage will occur to all this land area http://action.wilderness.org/campaign/utah_redrock

I don't know why it is that people always want to have their cake and eat it too. My thinking is that President Bush is attempting to give us some freedom from the costly foreign oil so the everyday consumer gets a much needed break at the gas pump. Naturally the environmentalists want to protect the land, but you can't have it both ways.

And maybe one thing some people could consider...11 million acres is a lot of land for sure, but maybe he asked for a lot so that he could negotiate and end up with something workable.

I'm pretty sure the actor Robert Redford is going to be down Bush's throat..he's a well known activist who just happens to live in Utah--the irony is that they want the land that is in the various parks systems in Utah...uh, gee, aren't those protected lands??

Hi pye! Well, I am not an American citizen but I sympathize with you over this. I think Bush is really out to enrich their family business. That is what I am hearing here locally. I wonder if that is really true. I hope all the concerned citizens will be successful in stopping Bush in desecrating the beautiful lands of Utah which I have only seen in pictures. I pray and hope for your success in stopping him. Take care and have a nice day. :)

im not entirely sure of these facts, as i tend to believe it when i see it in actual print not from the media. if i believe everything i hear from them, then its a sad sad world we live in. I think we should all be finding synthetic oil and gas.. thats a possibiltiy., but the government wont back that idea., because there would be no money for them from it. this oil madness has got to stop. our country is full of oil,, and im sure we have plenty of it now,, we just make more selling it to the chinese, and exporting it.. did you know that?

Hi Pye, I just joined The Wilderness Society and I feel better already! It will be so Great when Bush is finally finished his last term as President. I Hope the American People have learned their lesson. One Term Should have been Enough! I'm doing my bit to protect America's wild Wildernesses. Thanks for the Post!

It's no mystery pye. Kerry was a horrible candidate. I mean if Gore couldn't beat Bush and he was the vice president during one of the most properous econimic eras that this country has seen then what made anyone believe that Kerry would defeat Bush? The democrats just needed a better candidate. I liked John Edwards in 2004 and I like him the best this year. It's a shame that he's running against the Clinton machine and the hype that is Barrack Obama because I believe that he is the best candidate and the polls show that he's the only one of the three that would beat John McCain if the elections were held today. But the democrats have no one to blame but themselves in 2004 for nominating someone as weak as Kerry.

OK Pyewacket I signed the petition. I very rarely sign petitions, but I am sick of Bush's underhanded BS. Do you know what else the little darling is doing or may have already accomplished, I haven't checked the vote yet. He tucked a little pork into a bill that was a sure pass through both Houses. Guess what it was. A free pass for himself and his cohorts in crime in the Gulf war and Guantanamo. Thats right. None of them can ever be tried for treason if the Bill makes it through Congress. That was fast thinking on Bushes part and it seems to be a pretty blatent admission of guilt too. Shalom~Adoniah

What I'd like to know is how Bush got re-elected in the first place? I have a neighbor downstairs..now this was a little after he had be re-elected...I bumped into her and she asked me "Isn't Bush the greatest president we've ever had?" I had to practically gag myself from saying anything...what twilight zone was this woman from? Wouldn't be surprised if she still thinks he's wonderful

While it's NOT funny, when the reservation system was being set up, the government usually found land that no "white" person would want to have in a million years...unfortunately now the govt wants to take even that land because of all its resources, or dump toxic waste like they do on the Navajo reservation

I'm not surprised by this in the least. After all, this is Bush we are talking about that things America is his playground and has been willed to him by God, since God told him he was meant to be President. I wish people would realize what he really stands for and what he's really all about.

I'll probably look into this one more. My first thought is that touching this area would be completely incorrect since it is a location for cultural and scientific beneficial reasons. Still, I've seen similar entries like this Pye and a few of them turned out false (and others had their bias and glaring inadequacies).
