Selling artwork

Have you ever sold any of your artwork? Did you get a good price? How/where did you sell it (ebay, etsy, etc.). I am a rubber stamp artist (meaning I can't draw, but I can create art from someone else's artwork), and I love to create. Is it worth my time trying to sell my artwork? I have seen some artwork that was hideous in my eyes and it brought a large amount of money in, so beauty truly IS in the eye of the beholder.

I, too, love to create beautiful cards using rubber stamping techniques. I approached a local art gallery owner and she was only too happy to stock my cards to sell to her customers. She sells on consignment, so I don't see any cash until the cards are sold. It doesn't make me a fortune, but it does keep me in art supplies and I love that others purchase my beautiful, unique cards for their special occasions.

That's great! Do you sell them as individual cards or sets? Just wondering how to best present the product.

I sell them individually at the gallery, packaged in cellophane bags to prevent shop soiling. I do have sets of cards, too, but I have found that most people are happy to spend $5-6 on one beautiful card, but unwilling to pay $25-30 for a beautiful collection of 6 cards. It's a matter of knowing your market. Speaking of which, local hobby markets are a good place to start, but be aware that people will be looking for a bargain, so it's better to opt for volume rather than price.

I have sold some of my paintings, but it was all by people seeing it in someone's house or a gallery. As far as my crafting, I sell by referral. I have done special scrapbooks for people and then when other people see it, they want one too. As far as cards (I put mine in a plastic envelope to protect them) and other things like that, I have sold a craft fairs, but everyone wants a bargain there. Sometimes I just take them with me and pull them out to show people. Sometimes I get a sale that way. I do it more for fun than for money.

Thanks! I haven't done any craft fairs, for the reason you cited. I guess everyone is their own worst critic, and I need to get over that fear of rejection and just get out there. I think I could sell cards to the local hospital gift shop, but I never think they are good enough (even though they really are), or I think they are so good I want to keep them (like children...lol). Thanks for your input
