Poor financial planning is not just common in some countries. In fact, all over the world, many young adults are victims of poor financial planning. Would starting educating teenagers about proper financial planning help better the next generation? What is your view on this issue?

I think poor financial planning is a huge problem and would love to see classes on this be required in school rather than the way it is right now in our area - it's and elective, if they want to they offer it but it's up to the 'kids'.

It is my prayer that governments everywhere would make it compulsory education on personal finance. And I mean at young age and not when grown into adults and already financially battered. I am sure many would agree with us on this. I wish there is more post on this issue even here at mylot.com.

oh i sooooo agree. my daughter is 14 and a lot of her friends go to mom for cash and one in particular goes to the mall every saturday... these kids are in for culture shock when they have to get a job and support themselves!!! as for my daughter, we shop at thrift stores, we barely ever go to the mall, we go to the library and we as parents are trying to teach both my daughters (we have a 10 year old as well) that money is indeed hard to come by but easily spent (if you let it!)

When I was young, all I had was hand me down clothes but today, the kids would not only wear new clothes but branded ones as well. Times have truly changed. If we parents do not do something about it, we are only to blame for the problem.

I've been teaching my kids about financial matters, it is an important part of life. I don't want them to make the same mistakes as we did and have all this debt to pay off. It is up tous parents to teach them because there isn't anything being taught in the schools. Althugh I think there should be.

Recently, I got involved in a program that teaches kids about money matters. Things like financial savvyness, credit card debts, etc and we have even had a few training camps. The responses from the kids and their parents were so encouraging that today we have our hands full in planning more training camps.
