whats the most inexpensive yet greatest invention?

just curious to see what people thought was the most inexpensive invention which has brought in billions to its creators. a few examples: Post-It Notes and Duct Tape

thats a good point, matches are always something good to have handy but people are using lighters more and more. matches are more less a last resort to me when a lighter is out of fluid. i dont smoke though im just talking about campfires, grills, and house fireplaces. but good thinking

Yes, I use lighters more too nowadays, since they are a few pence each here but matches were there first. all the best urban

very inexpensive and found in most homes, though I would not think it qualifies as "greatest" they can sometimes be viewed as indispensable... the elastic (rubber) band.
