Have you seen both versions of The Little Shop of Horrors?

The musical version has been on the Chiller channel for a week and I really don't like it. I do like some of the actors in it but I think they've turned a decent movie into something ridiculous. I especially hate the fact that they turned it into a musical! The original in black and white had become somewhat of a cult classic until this one came along and ruined it! What do you think? Have you seen either of them? Did you like one more than the other?

I completely and whole heartedly DISAGREE with everything that you just said. The original is what coined the phrase about making a movie in 2 days as it was filmed in two days using an old already used set. It IS a cult classic, not somewhat of one. They turned the original into a very successful broadway musical which is also a cult classic. Then a cult classic of the 80's became the broadway musical version to the big screen with the musical movie which stars one of the same characters made famous on broadway. All three are cult classics in their own right. And all three are great for what they are meant for. It's more rare to ever see the original though. One of Jack Nicholsons first movies and you can usually find it pretty cheap on dvd.

I actually forgot about Jack Nicholson being in the original version. I just couldn't see Steve Martin lowering himself to do a part like this since I love him in every movie he's ever made and he is not a singer by any means.

Oh I love Steve Martin too... but I don't think he lowered himself at all. I think it's a great movie. I really want to get the original on dvd. I have the musical one. Now if you want to compare original Hairspray to New musical hairspray...that i'll agree that the original is better...and I haven't even seen the new one.

I am the opposite. I love the musical. I have never seen the original. In fact I saw the musical as part of my Halloween celebration last time. But I know what you mean when a beloved film becomes a musical. I won't see the new Hairspray because I love and have the original.

I saw that movie years ago and it was a cute movie..i guess that is the only version that I have seen..I thought it was a cute movie but it had to be the old version because it was a very long time ago and i saw it on cable...I did not know that there was another version to it....I liked the one that i saw but like i said it has been a long time..I have often looked to see if they have that movie, the old version but i have not seen it any where...I would like to see it again, to see what it was that i liked..I may not like it now..

I've never seen the musical although I've seen clips of it. I love the movie and our previous cat's name was Twoey as is my id here...Twoey being the name that Seymour gives the Audrey II. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I have only ever seen the one with Rick Moranis and Steve Martin. I knew there was another one, but I have never seen it.

The only one I've seen is the one with Rick Moranis, and Steve Martin was the dentist. I enjoyed it, though I'd like to see the other version. I did see it at the local high school a few years ago, and the kids did a great job with it.

I have seen both and they are okay for their genre. my favorite though was the musical version - when my husband played in the local community theatre.... he was the demented dentist and was SO GOOD at it! he playd a few other characters in the show but that was the main one. too funny
