You could just have paypal mail you your payments. You do not need a credit card to use paypal.

what if you just signed up for paypal without using a credit card to receive payments what would happen?

The reason they ask for credit card or for pay pal, this is the way they have the system set up to pay you for your questions or answers..They are running a promotion right now.
