Ok I have heard that sometimes a girls period will start as young as 9 yrs old. I was 12 when I started mine. My daughter is 8 and will be 9 in Oct. Should I start to talk to her about her period or should I wait a little longer? My mother never told me about it till it happened, and I was so scared when it did. And I want my daughter to be prepared. So any advice please.?

Well you can definitely start, then at least she wont get the shock that I got. I had mine from 9. I remember one afternoon I was skipping on the terrace, Thank god mom was home and suddenly I went red! I rushed to her and her words still ring in my years “OMG you’ve got your …” it was as if I had sinned for the first time in my life. The embarrassment, the confusion, the frustration of coping with something so new and so nauseating. In the blink of an eyelid, my childhood was gone forever. Being a woman, it was inevitable, but I think the shock factor would have been less had my mom prepared me beforehand for it. Cant blame her though, maybe she herself did not anticipate it so soon.

I don't want that to happen to my daughter. But it is hard to tell when things like that is going to happen. Thank you.

I was 9, in fourth grade when my mom told me about "the birds and the bees." I think when she's 9 or 10 would be the best time to tell her.

neither did my mom for some reason, hmmm... i told my 14 year old about it before (maybe a year - when she was about 11 or 12) but i think 9 is too young...my other daughter is and why worry her with stuff that she doesnt understand yet?
