I have been hearing a lot about a pregnant woman shouldent drink coffee. I drank coffee the whole nine months with my first daughter. I am currently working on getting pregnant agian. I would like to have opinions on this subjects. I love to have my coffee. I sometimes drink it at night too. Thanks, Michelle

I have also heard about this. But you can drink 2-3 cups . If you want to take more then add skimmed milk to it and not cream. Since tea and coffee are stimulants, it is said to irritate the baby when you are pregnant. That's the main reason for them asking you not to drink coffee. If you like you can drink it with milk. It'll not harm the baby. In south India we have coffee regularly in the mornings at least, whether we are pregnant or not. So do not worry about this anymore.

Studies show that 2 or 3 cups a day is safe while you are pregnant. Too much caffeine can constrict the blood vessels which deliver nutrients to the placenta, and the baby may not get enough nourishment. Here is an article which has more information on the effects of caffeine on pregnancy: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/221281/pregnancy_and_caffeine.html

I try to avoid caffeine myself...it makes me jittery and can leach calcium from your bones. I probably have one caffeinated beverage a week. I usually drink decaffeinated coffee.

When I was pregnant I tried not to drink the real coffee. i changed my coffee into decaf coffee. Even I got different taste of coffee but at least I still can drink it and the caffeine is much more lower compare to the real one. :)

I drink coffee even when I was pregnant but I try to limit it to a cup a day instead of having three cups that I use to drink when I am not pregnant. I haven't seen any side effects to my baby as of now and I am hoping that there is none.

My doctor advised me against drinking to much coffee of drinks with caffeine... because it might make my baby irritable... or something like that... so i refrain from drinking coffee, tea, and soda... it wouldn't hurt you to stop but if you can't do it... then just try minimizing your intake... then after your pregnancy... you can go back to your coffee drinking days...

They say that caffeine isn't good during pregnancy but not all of them practice what they preach. I however, have given birth to 6 beautiful children all of which were about normal birth weight (according to my family sizes) and they are all healthy. Didn't have any problems from it and my own doctor didn't tell me to stop drinking it. Too many people saying what you shouldn't do instead of explaining things.
