What's Gone Wrong With the Edward Campaign?

I know I'll get plenty of answers from conservative Republicans, but that's not what I'm looking for; rather, I'm asking why he hasn't gotten more support from those who believe in the same things he does. He's really brought the issue of poverty in America to the forefront (note to Bill O' - it really does exist) and he's spent a good part of the last few years dedicated to this cause. So, what are you thoughts? Is it a case of lousy timing for a white male in the Democratic party? Or is it simply the almighty dollar, or in Edwards' case the lack thereof? Annie

He's up against 2 very strong candidates, and by comparison looks quite weak. He seems quite plastic, wimpy and generally uninspiring, and I don't think he's truly differentiated himself from Obama and Clinton policy-wise. I heard it claimed that Edwards is splitting the anti-Clinton vote within the Democratic party. I wonder what are the chances of him dropping out any time soon, as this might be a big boost for Obama. Though I guess it's unlikely he'll drop out before 'super tuesday'.

I'm surprised that for once I disagree with you. I like Edwards a lot and I don't see those things in him that you mention. I really like his wife, too and think she'd make a great First Lady, unlike the Stepford Wife we have now. I'm sorry, I know that was mean...lol. But, whether it's because he's weak or not, he's certainly not getting the attention the other two are getting. Annie

I think John was a very strong candidate, just as much as the other two but did not have the funding and the media focused most of their time on Hillary and Barack.

I'd like to say its bad timing but I don't think so. He could not beat Kerry out 4 years ago and Kerry was a very weak candidate. He has definitely had no chance as he has 2 superstars in his own party to go up against. Its funny the Dem's haven't had a good candidate in 8 years, now they have 3 great choices at one time (only 2 in my eyes I hate Hillary). He hurt himself too by not taking PAC $. You'd think more peope would care but no one seems to care about Hillary being in bed with big business and corporate America. I think Edwards hangs in there, he gets a slice of the white male vote and a slice of the anti-Clinton vote and becomes the "kingmaker" everyone is talking about (and chooses Obama of course).

I think if Edwards would have hung in there a little bit longer in 2004 he just may have pulled it off. The sad thing is I've talked to quite a few people who were registered Republicans and ended up voting for Bush who said they'd have voted for Edwards if he'd have been the nominee as well as some Democrats and independents who didn't bother voting but said they would have if he'd been the nominee. I think the Democrats had a real banner year. I liked all those who were running and said early on it was a shame they all wouldn't last very long in the campaign and it was hard to make a choice. I've been watching very closely....and personally..... I think...in the Very near future....we will observe good things come to a full circle. You have to consider all Facets , and he seems to be doing exactly as I thought he would , at the right time too. Edwards is not out of the game....not by a long shot. Mark my words.... There's more to this portrait , then what you see at first Observation. " Stand Back a little....take it all in "

Unfortunately the best and most intelligent candidates never make it through the primaries. I voted for Alan Keyes in the primaries in 96 and 2000 with no luck. In 2004 I really wanted to see Lieberman get the democrats nomination, but instead it was Kerry. This year will be like every other, pick the lesser of two evils.
