I strongly feel that cell phones should be banned from schools.Schooling is the most important part of a child's development and we cannot afford to pollute the mind with too much and unnecessary digression. Those few hours could be spend well without phone. We could do it, our grandparents did without it and I am sure children can do without it as well. Most of the times we grownups are responsible for this and our attitude has to be changed in the first place. We need to prioritise ourselves before restricting the children. Thanks.

I think educational institution should just be strict with students who bring cellphones at school. They would only allow student to have calls and no text messages during class hours. Student would just have to excuse themselves ,before talking on the phone, outside the classroom to avoid disturbing the lesson. Perhaps no longer than a three minute call so the student could come back in class to continue participating. I think three minutes would be enough to contain any message given at calls. Be it a typical or an emergeny. Then again, the school should just allow student to entertain calls from family or relatives.

That could work but, we never know when emergencies would occur. I could relate one at school wherein after a few moments when some students were already in class, the school suddenly announces that classes were suspended. It would've been inconvenient for every student to go to a free single call booth just to call their parents to pick them up since classes were cancelled for some reason. Students should just be disciplined in phonethics.

This is been a long and hot discussion everywhere that whether cell phones need to banned in schools or not..But let me put points from both the side..It should be banned because: 1:Increased MMS related crimes all around. 2:Distraction because of friends ,sms and lose interst in studies Should not be banned taking into consideration that there is some education on merits and demerits of using one. Ultimately if there is banned there is no guarantee that crimes can be checked but it can be reduced only to a certain extent..because forceful implementation of any rules has its own future effects..

Yes sonia, you are right it cannot be force fully implmented but if parents want they can do it counciously. It should be done by the family members only. I don't think it is immpossible if we all can try it sincerely. thanks for your response.

definitely, it should be banned in schools. hi Mahesh , in my opinion, now a days cell phone shows your status, don't you think that.there are so many children in schools from every society and religion. think about those children, who's parents can't afford even books, or primary requirement of that child. out of the school you can use it.

I was just thinking about this very thing today. I have had the opportunity to see both sides of this, and I lean toward the idea that they should be banned. School is not the place to text each other etc. Students should be able to concentrate on their studies without the added distractions of cell phones. However, I worked for a domestic violence prevention agency for several years, and we had situations where the child NEEDED the phone to alert parents or the police of different things. That was the only time these children used the phones so in the case of safety I think they should be allowed to CARRY them and only use them when necessary.

My 11 yuear old nephew now carries a cell phone. He calls when he and his sister leave the house for school and then calls to say they have arrived. It is then turned off and put in his backpack. He has been forbidden to use it during the day. The teachers know he has it but it's for safety only, not for use. He calls again when school gets out to let his dad know they are on their way home and when they get there. They do not have a home phone so my sister-in-law thought this was necessary. I was against him having it at school but the teacher monitors him and he doesn't even try to use it during the school day. I agree they are too disruptive, especially with text messagng going on.

Yes I agree with you if it is used with in discipline like your nephew. But it is not with most of the cases as all childrens are not sincere and ready to break discipline. Thanks for your response.

I think it should be banned from classrooms. Kids need to focus on their learning instead of who is calling. I don't see a problem with kids carrying cell phones on the school bus, before school, after school or during lunch. Too much text messaging goes on also.

I do not think they should be allowed in classes. I am on the fence about letting kids have them in their lockers. It used to be the responsibility of the school staff to let parents know about problems. But these days maybe they should have them for protection going to and coming home from school. But like I said I am totally against kids having them in classrooms.

I do not think that cell phones should be used in class, one child will end up using it in class and then they all will. Many schools do have policies concerning cell phones, and keep them banned from schools. I think if there was an emergency parents would contact the school, and vice versa. Cell phones are just another tool that are growing children up too fast in soceity today.

Yes I think it should be bannned till 12th class as it can disturb the students and above all they mis use it for wrong resons. As we have seen a lot in tv news these days kids mis use it. I think it should be allowed once the kids pass out high school, not before that. I personally would not allow my kids to use it till they finish school, otherwise i will allow them when they are at home or just hanging around.

I think for safety reasons children should be allowed to carry them on the bus or when walking or riding a bike to and from school. However I think it should be mandated that it remains off during the school hours. It would definitely be a distraction with all the texting that goes on. My daughter now 11 keeps asking me when she is going to get one. I haven't bought one for her because I feel that she is in a safe enough environment that she doesn't need one as of yet. Plus I think she is still to young.

If kids want to carry a cell phone to school I think that's fine. I know several parents who let their kids have cell phones for safety purposes. Also parents like the fact that they can be in touch with their kids anytime during the day. However, the phone should be required to stay in the locker during class. If the student gets caught with the phone in the class then the teacher takes it away and the student can retrieve it in the secretary's office.

They should be allowed in school just not in the classroom. they should just turn it off in the classroom then turn in on outside. Never know if they are going to have an emergency.

Yes,I agree with you.The cell phones are common between students.I don't think it necessary for them. They spend all day together, and it's convenient to contact each other face to face. And some students play games on cell phones in class. It disturbs other students and teachers. So I prefer to ban cell phones in class.

It is an important commodity of present age. Our children should never go away from our reach. Cell phone cause to keep the children or students of school in contact with their parents. In this respect a cell phone per student seems very important. But on other hand we see that this also cause to waste the time of students and disturb their studies. Hence the teachers do not allow the students to keep cell phone in their pockets or school bags. I would like to add that they should teach the student about proper use of cell phone and they should allow them to keep on for some time in cell phone period and likewise

i think student should allow to bring a cellphone at school. cellphone is so handy, you can call your kids wherever they are... you just discipline them not to use it during class or else it will be confiscated(like here in the Philippines).

I think it should be banned to grade schools, but those students who are old enough how to discipline themselves just like college students, it would be allowed. In the case of pre-school and grade school pupils, I think cellphones should be banned, because there might be a tendency that during class time those pupils will just used their time in texting or in playing games which is on the cellphone. They cannot focus on the lesson. We know children have short span of attention and they likes to play games so they might be overused their cellphones to playing games aside from texting and the result they will not learn anything from the discussion.

In the schools of our country, students do have cellphones. Parents buy their kids cellphones in case they need any help, which makes the parents a little less worried.

I think not. As cellphones for someone can be for some emergency purpose. But some children use it for other purposes which i think is not fare, like taking photos and playing songs in school or campus.
