Senator Ted Kennedy Endorses And Backs Obama..And...

Wow, now my mind is really made up just because Ted Kennedy is backing up Obama and he has my vote now..NOT...NOT...NOT. If anyone is going to steer me clear away from a vote for Obama it's now knowing Senator Ted Kennedy is backing and endorsing him. Why? I'm sorry but I CAN'T stand the Kennedys. This country for some reason has always put the Kennedys as if they are some kind of royalty. Can people really forget what a bunch of smucks the whole family is? Yes, it was a tragedy that President John Kennedy was assassinated...I remember that day vividly...BUT...John Kennedy and his brother Bobbie were busy tossing Marilyn Monroe back and forth with one another...there are even theories that they had a hand in her so-called suicide as she knew too much of the politics involved at the time. Then there's Ted Kennedy that literally got away with murder with the Chapaquitic incident where he was driving drunk with his girlfriend and the car skidded into the lake....she drowned but he escaped...he failed to report the incident until the next day after sleeping it off...and how about William Kennedy Smith who raped a girl...he got off with nothing more than a slap on the wrist and got off scott free. I used to hear this story from my folks...my great-grandfather was offered to work for the Kennedys...the "founding" father of the "dynasty" Joe Kennedy...he refused saying he wouldn't work for such a scum. OH, and by the way the Irish translation for the name Kennedy is "fat or ugly head" in the gaelic language... If anything the only ones I ever felt sorry for were the women who married into the Kennedy line...all of the men had numerous affairs..gee, no wonder Ethel became an alcoholic. Sorry folks just because a Kennedy backs Obama is NOT going to make me race out and vote for Obama. What is your feeling about this new endorsement of the Kennedy family, and what are your views of the Kennedys in general?

I pay no attention to who is backing whom at all. I vote for who I want to vote for regardless of that. I watch, listen and vote for who I feel is the right candidate that suits my views and who I feel may benefit our working class and country as a whole., not who is backing the candidate.

What websites about his "true nature"? PLEASE don't tell me you mean those sites that say he's really a Muslim and say those untrue things about his church. I'm also still undecided but I sure don't believe all the dirt they're trying to spread about Obama. Also, he was called Barry for short when he was younger, or so I've read, but his real name is Barack. Annie

Ted Kennedy makes me ill. It still bothers me today how he can get reelected over and over, yet still never answer for murder, or at least manslaughter! He has no morals, so if I were Obama, I wouldn't want him to endorse me. I mean really, his opinion is not something I would not want associated with me.

Yes they did. I never was big on moral ambiguity.

To my mind most of the Kennedys had/have no morals...that family got away with an awful lot didn't they?

I agree with you - I remember when I was young looking up to the Kennedys thinking they were really special people. Sad thing is they have over the years taken advantage and used their name time and time again for nothing but to better themselves.

I think that's why the Kennedys have gotten away with so much...even THEY think they're special people with special privileges.

Well, when I heard it, I was a bit dismayed, as it will carry some weight... I'm pulling for Hilary (if she could handle Bill, she can handle any political crisis that might come up ;o)) Oh, and you forgot to mention the reason why your granddad might have thought Joe was scum... he was a rum-runner, wasn't he? I didn't know the tranlation for the name, but now that you mention it, they all did have large heads...

I lost all respect for Ted Kennedy in the last presidential election when I saw him resort to name calling and bashing. I totally agree with you on this. I wasn't voting for Obama anyway, or Clinton for that matter. But I did have some respect for Obama until I heard that. It definately didn't raise my estimation of him.

I wonder if Obama realizes just how Kennedy's endorsement of him will drop his popularity...a lot of people aren't Kennedy fans.

Admittedly, I'm not a US resident, so, obviously, I won't be voting in your election. But, from what I can tell Ted Kennedy is a buffoon, and wouldn't sway me to vote for Obama. I'm curious..who do you think will win? Who you people vote for has a lot of impact in my country (Canada).

I have no idea who will win bonbon....I certainly didn't vote for Bush, and a lot of people didn't vote for him that I know of, yet somehow he got in. Makes one think that casting one's vote doesn't mean anything

Hmmm.. I wonder if this a ploy to hinder Obama. I am not a fan of either Kennedy or Obama, but I just wonder if this is a way to further turn many against Obama. I may be totally off base, but it just reeks of well... it just reeks to me. (of course politics in general reeks to me) How do you know any of these people that are running for office? They all say things they think we want to hear. I just don't trust any of them.

To quote you: .."They all say things they think we want to hear. I just don't trust any of them. ...." Isn't that the truth...have any of them come through with their promises to us?

that is interesting about the translation - the kennedy's did have a common trait of a large head, didn't they? I am also no fan of ted kenedy, though I think that president JFK was a decent president with good ideas and I am sorry that he was assassinated, I think our country would have been better off if he had not been. my feeling is that public figures should not be permitted to use their celebrity or fame to endorse candidates publicly.

I agree with you--not a Kennedy fan here either. Although I did like John Kennedy as President at the time. I think his assasination has probably "sainted" him, though. I don't know who I'm going to vote for. Although he sounds and acts good, I keep wondering is Obama is a militant Muslim in disguise....I do know I am sick of the campaigning already and we still have a year to go!

There are so many rumors being circulated especially online in an effort to trash Obama but they've all been proven to be false. He went to a Muslim school in his very early years but has been a Christian for most of his life. His church now is predominantly black and they do work to fight against racism and to help uplift blacks, but what's really wrong with that? Why does a candidate's personally religious faith have to play such an important role in a campaign, unless they plan to inject it into their policies? Annie

I have no fondness at all for the Kennedy's. ed would probably rank the lowest since he is still living. This state will always love the Kennedy's because MA is a blind faith democrat state. Mindless fools following the party laws and never bothering to think for themselves. I don't hold the womanizing against them since all men do that, married or not....It is depressing, but not much to do about it.

I have never understood what clout the Kennedys have. I feel the only reason we have ARnold as the senator of CA is because he married an Kennedy. I would back a politician because of my own ideas and my own mind not because someone else backs them. I feel we need to make up our own mind and not back a person becaue an actor or someone else backs them.

Yes how an "a-hole" like Arnie got to be governor is amazing but you're right...no doubt cause he married into the Kennedy family...I saw broadcasts of him as he was going through the ruins of the aftermath of the wildfires and all he did was smile like a jerk to the reporters saying everything is under control...duh?

JFK Junior was pretty hot. I just needed another reason not to vote for Obama. Now I have it. I don't like him to begin with and now the political machine known as the Kennedy family is backing the one man I never wish to see as president.

Mmmm....JFK Jr. was a jerk...LOL. I had no sympathy for his dying in that plane crash, as no pilot, not even a long time veteran flyer would have flown under those weather conditions...like what? He couldn't have waited until the fog lifted before flying???

Well Pywacket, I certainly don't have any animosity for the the Kennedys but Ted Kennedy & Caroline Kennedy's endorsements strike me as being rather meaningless. I give as much credence to them as I give to the endorsements of John Kerry & movie stars & basketball players etc. I've already made up my mind and I'm supporting Hilary Clinton. In the end I think it will come down to Hilary vs John McCain whom I also like but I want a female president. I think the bottom line in this upcoming election is whether or not women will support a female candidate. If they do, she's in. If they don't, there probably will not be another female candidate in the life time of any living person. As for the Kennedys, they got a Catholic into the Whitehouse and as an Irish Catholic myself, that was a good thing. I can remember my father stopping a family friend who asked if my 8 year old brother "wanted to grow up to be president" and telling the man not to say that because no Catholic would ever be president. By the time my brother was 10 that had changed thanks to JFK. Of course, they never asked little girls that then and they probably don't now but I'm hoping that will change in the next year. I will agree that JFk's affairs were reckless but nobody knew then. I think I'd be willing to cut Bill Clinton a lot of slack based on JFK's history. At least he wasn't playing around with Mafia molls and threatening national security but then Kennedy did pay the ultimate price. I guess I just would rather remember him as the first (and only) Catholic president. He had a lot of charisma and he broke barriers. For a while, at least, he made us feel good about ourselves and that was not a bad thing. It might just be that that kind of magnetism even if it is based on an illusion, is the only thing that can break barriers. I guess that that is something else that will just have to be tested in this year. Barrack and Hilary are both trying to break barriers. He's heavy on charm and she is heavy on experience and substance. Be interesting to see what happens.
