I heard on Logo that there is a new term that is being used instead of Lesbian. It is Gayelle. Do you like it? Is it better, worse or about the same as Lesbian?I don't want to offend Anyone so I thought I'd ask. Thanks for your help.

It must be a young thing. As you know, I have a large circle of gay friends and I have never heard the term. Interesting. I don't see myself using it.

Now I feel old. I thought of myself as young before but hadn't heard of this. As for taking words like qu*er, I was watching a documentary where someone said something about that... it was like sticking it back to the bigots, saying we took your word away and now you don't have your derogatory term. I thought that was kind of cool, but I don't use the word generally myself.

Oh, I totally agree with you on that. It's just funny how the terms go. I remember that prior to my brother's generation, "que#r" was a only used as a derogatory term by straight bigots. Then the gay community took the term and made it their own. Many still hate it. My uncle will say, "I'm a gay man, i'm no fricking que#r." I imagine this will be pretty much the same.

I am straight so I don't get to choose. I just wanted to know how my gay friends think about it.

It sounds better plus the fact that it is new, only few people would understand what really it is. Lesbian is already equated into something negative and being called gayelle is much better as gay counterpart.

"Lesbian is already equated into something negative".....really? I don't think the word lesbian is negative. Nor do I think Lesbians are negative. Before I conjecture on what exactly you mean by that, I shall let you explain it for yourself. So...why do you say "Lesbian is already equated into something negative"? PEACE

So, it is the fact that being a lesbian is the negative. I am a lesbian and I do not see any negativity in using that name. It is actually the idea of homosexuality that serves as the negative. Just as the lack of knowledge and understanding of blacks, jews, muslims, filipinos, indians, etc.,etc.,etc. Thanks so much for clarifying. I do appreciate your response. PEACE

Eww. I must say, I hate it. Gayelle sounds like either a name or some type of undiscovered antelope thing related to a Gazelle. I'd rather be a lesbian. I must say though, I never heard of gayelle until this post.

Thank you. It seems like most of my gay friends don't like Gayelle.
