I need fixed braces again at 26 and it's going to cost me a bomb.

I am training as a singer and the angle of my 2 front teeth is effecting my singing (my f's sound a bit too hissy) so I have to go to a orthodontist and have braces fitted privately, as the NHS won't pay for it at my age. It's going to cost me more than a thousand pounds and I don't know where I'm going to find the money, so please respond to this discussion as every cent helps lol (only joking don't feel obliged).
I wore them for about 7 years as a teenager but as soon as I turned 18 they took them off as the NHS wouldn't fund them anymore, even though I needed more teeth extracted and my teeth weren't straight. IO should have made more of a fuss back then as the rest of the work probably would have been cheaper if I'd had it done then, but at the time I was just glad to have all that metal off my teeth.

I had braces when I was 16 and altho I'm glad I had it done unfortunately as my wisdom teeth have come in my teeth aren't as straight as they were. I'm too much of a coward to go thro the pain of getting teeth out, so I think you're brave and very committed to your singing to get it done.

It's not only thatit is partly about vanity and confidence, I don't like to open my mouth wide because people can see my teeth. That's obviously very bad for a singer too.

Not opening your mouth would be a bit of a drawback for singing, if you don't feel comfortable with the way your teeth look, I wouldn't count that as vanity.

Don't ya just LOVE socialized medicine!
My sister went into braces in 9th grade - they said for 6 months. She got out of them just before she graduated high school. She really didn't need a lot done. About 20 the dentist noticed my overbite (the bottom teeth about my second molars are outside the top ones, but I can close my mouth. I informed him it was too late, I wasn't going to wear braces. (I already knew what my sister was going thru at that point.)

Yes I saw girls in braces who's teeth looked like they had nothing wrong with them, I'm sure sometimes they just do it for the money.

Well, my sis needed it. She had a bit of an overbite in the back, but mostly she had to have quite a massive move forward in the front because she didn't have her second incisors (the ones between the middle teeth & the canine) on either side. And one of her main incisors was coming in the wrong way. Once they were all in, they had to pull the canines up and straighten the croaked one. Once the braces were off, they tipped the ends off the canines. If you know what to look for, you know what has been done, I once recognized someone that had had the work done because I knew what to see.

It's going to be tough but I should manage it, it has to be done while still young.

Ugh..I am sorry to hear about you needing braces.
My teeth were moving as I became older and one tooth was moving under the other in the front making my smile look off and the beside the one tooth moving it was leaving a gap. I felt that it looked horrible.
Well, to make a long story short, my dentist put caps on my front teeth and corrected the problem. They are straight again
I paid for with online programs, though it took awhile to save up, that is how I did it and am glad that I did.
You may want to ask about that option instead of wearing braces, it would be so much easier, quicker and yes, costly. But, if it can be done instead, an easy fix.
Good luck!

I'm not sure if that could be done here, but if it's cheaper and faster than having the braces (it will take 2 years apparently) I might consider it.

I hope so it's a lot of money I have to raise, though I don't have to pay it all at once I do have to come up with a lump sum to start with that is very hefty. After that I can pay in monthly installments.

Well there are some nice site online that you can check out and make a good amount of money from, you may not get the amount of money you need for the braces but you may get half
