"heavy" versus "light" reading

When I was in University I found that when I picked up a book for recreational reading I wanted something light and entertaining. When I was working in a job that bored me, I wanted to read science journals and sociological texts. Even now I find that I tend to read a series of "heavy" books - sociology, history, current events - and then follow up with some SF or fantasy. It's like my brain needs a break after so much information has been pumped into it. Do you do the same thing? Or do you find that your tastes remain pretty much constant?

There are different times I do both. And just like what I do here on MyLot there are times I get into heavy subjects and times I leave a quick response. There is always light reading material (updated) in all my bathrooms and reading material is available at all my coffee tables. The heavy stuff is on the four built-in bookshelves I have around my house and a couple more that I have that I bought and put together. I like both heavy and light reading... it just depends on the mood I am in.

See you're more like me. I like to have a variety of books around depending on what kind of a mood I'm in.

Absolutely. I subscribe to three magazines (which is being scaled down to two) and I am also a book fiend. I LOVE going to the bookstore. Whatever bookstore... B&N or a little antique bookstore. It doesn't matter to me. So my tastes in books are most definately eclectic.

Well, I never enjoyed reading "heavy" books, so everything I read would rather be considered "light" - but then, it's meant to be fun, isn't it? And good science-fiction or fantasy story isn't bad =]

I prefer light reading, but that's just the way I am. :)
