Is your cell phone just for emergency or occassional calls Is it your all the time communitcations Do you use it for texting and non verbal communications Is it a pda or even a smart phone or one of the Sony / Sony-Ericson Walkman music phones What are all of the extras beyond just the basic phone if any, and do you use them?

My mother is the same. She has a prepaid phone, she takes it when she goes to the laundry, but doesn't turn it on most times. I don't think she has used more then 10 or 15 minutes of call time and she has had it for over 2 years (was a christmas present in 2005) She has let a couple grandchildren use it on trips, and it got more use in one weekend then she ever used it.

My cellphone ends up for emergency use only--- because I am always online (except when I am out of town). I also prefer for people to contact me thru email, etc. Most of the time I rarely bother checking my cellphone. This actually started when I started to work at home--thru the intenet. I made a promise to myself then to let go of things related to technology as much as possible when not working because I spent way so much time with my laptop---I just had to drop anything technical related.

hello bothertuck, I'm also have a phone cell, gsm based one and cdma based one, my gsm one only use for a 3G data connection, from 8 AM till 12 PM, and sometimes if I have to download pretty big data, I'm make it online 24 hours directlly, often I use this way on my 3G gsm phone, it's brand is sonny erickson k610i, for my dailly activity I'm using my cdma one, nokia 2116, since it's cheap for a voice connection.

We have texting features here in my country, perhaps one of the top texting-community in the world. I used to be a text addict, but realized the true purpose of having such a technology like these cellphones. I often use it now, I mostly use them for calling or receiving calls and emergency purposes.

We only use our cell phone for emergencies. We get purchase a year prepaid and probably only use 10min during the whole year so we have quite a few minutes built up needless to say.

So far, and I'm thankful for, I haven't received any emergency calls on my cellphone. I often get calls from my family or relatives when they're in the country. Mostly for texting like asking where a particular person is at the moment so we don't have to worry at home or another detail to add up so a trip won't be such a waste since everything, as it seems, would be considered like extra items to buy at the market. I don't know if its a Smart phone but, phones now-a-days are certainly PDAs for me since they're so featured in a way that would pass up as assistants in a way. Though mine isn't like SonyEricson's Walkman series, it can play music as well as radio which adds a plus factor for me. My phone is Nokia's N-Gage so the extra would be able to play games conveniently since the key pad layout is similar with those hand helds. I use it a lot ^_^

Emergencies and cabs only! - cell phone
My cell phone is for calling cabs and emergencies only. It does have the texting feature but I seldom use it. Since I have a landline and I'm always home anyway I really have no need for it other than that.

i seldom use my phone for messaging or calling. but it does act like a pager that only receives messages that often i can't respond to because my account is out of credits(I'm on PAYG). but if i do have prepaid credits, i surf the web with it occasionally. another use for my phone a watch. i always check the time on my phone as i'm too stingy to buy one(lol). the most important use of my phone is as my security blanket. whenever i'm away from my phone, i get anxious. probably because i'm dependent to it.

I have a cell phone which keeps me in contact with my kids, however I do hate it! It rings when I'm driving or busy, and lately I've been getting a lot of telemarketers calling on that number. I know in this day and age its a necessity, however the time that it broke and I was out of service for a week felt very liberating. I do not use it for texting since I don't know how to send texts anyway. Guess I'm part of the older generation!

My cell is for emergencies. I have a phone that costs $15 a month prepaid, no frills, and the minutes roll over so I have nearly 1,000 racked up. But when I need it, I'm so glad I have it! The price is right and I don't need texting or anything. I also can't drive while talking on the cell. What's wrong with me? I have to pull over and park if I make or receive a call while I'm driving.

My cell phone used to be attached to my head. But now with a home and a family (a baby at that) I only use it for emergency, or when travelling...I probably use about 20 minutes a month now. (even though they charge me 350 minutes damn cell phone company) I don't use it for texting anymore. And it's a basic phone, no camera, no music, no fancy ringtones. Plain Jane my friend.
