Dedicated to Night Time Reading.

Hong Kong
January 30, 2008 8:44am CST
These days I found myself spending way too much time on the internet (sometimes I even just sit here and stare at some websites for no reason *laughs*). Then I started telling myself I should "maintain" my other hobbies too. Therefore, I am spending my night time catching up some reading (I got too many books waiting to be read!) and deliberately not getting online. What about you? Are you obsessed with getting online? Or do you dedicate certain amount of time to your other hobbies?

Hello wondericequeen, I love reading but I only have 23 hours a day *laughs* I can't afford to maintain all my hobbies. That's too sad *sighs* I am not too obsessed with getting online nowadays but whenever I have time to do so, I will never miss it *smiles*

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could have more than 24 hours a day? *sighs* Those days when I had my jet lag, I felt like I had accomplished a lot of stuff!

Hello wondericequeen, I love to have more than 24 hours a day but sometimes, I do feel if it is a bad day, it will take longer to end the day *laughs* Maybe there is a reason why God gave us 24 hours a day...

I find myself thinking and doing the exact same thing. I can spend loads of time on the interent not really doing anything just because i dont feel like getting to my actual responsabilities. There are so many times when i just sit and stare at my comp and think "what else could i be doing right now". I find that when i hvae the most to do i do the least. As for right now im suppose to be studying but instead im on the internet once again reading as long since taken a back seat to so many other things.

Me too! We experience the same thing! God, sometimes my heart says I want to read a book, but my body is still sticking in front of the computer!

me too. I am sooo addicted to the internet. whenever I go home there's nothing I want to do but get online. at work I keep thinking of my computer at home. ^__^;; I go online too whn I'm at work but its a lot different when I'm at home. anyway, I've been neglecting some of my hobbies lately because I am watching a lot of anime series in the internet. ^__^;; well, watching anime is one of my hobbies but I used to watch it only on tv or on dvd. but now, since there are many animes available online, I am spending the hobby online. I also watch some of Japanese teen dramas and korean soap operas. ^__^ scrapbooking is one of my hobbies and I have a lot of collected items I need to put in my scrapbook. but since I'm mostly online, those items are withering away waiting for me. LOL and I need to answer my mails from my penpals but I have been putting it off for almost 2 weeks now. ^__^;; and then, I have a lot of movies in dvds that I want to watch but I can't because I have no time for it. but I have lots of time for going online. LOL the only hobby I was able to squeeze in between my internet surfing is reading. I managed to finish a book I recently bought. its a classic, Arabian Nights which I have been wanting to read a long time ago. ^__^

just like mindless tv watching..hours wasted on the tube and you learn zip hours on the internet..and you just are prolonging your visits to mylot etc etc it is like chewing gum for the mind..it just keeps our minds functioning but at a below par level..we don't have to think..just respond ..methinks

I spend entirely too much time online. Mainly because my husband and I both play a multiplayer game called Puzzle Pirates (found at Miniclip.com) It's completely free and is pretty cool, good for kids (ages 13+) and adults. Lately though, I've been on at home alot less because we've been watching alot of movies every weekend. During the week I try to get some housework done (I procrastinate and do dishes on a "as needed" basis). I also try to set aside about an hour or so to play video games with my kids. We've been renting Gauntlet Dark Legacy and take turns playing together. :D

But you still do a lot of other stuff *smiles*. I am a computer junkie! Sometimes I don't even know why I get online. But every time when I get on, I tend to have a lot to do!

I should add that I do occasionally read. (I read tons when I was growing up but now as a working mother it's near impossible). My daughters sometimes bring home books from the school library that they know I'd like and I'll read them while watching TV and movies. I've read a cpl Harry Potter books this way as well as Eragon. :D

internet is really very addicting but we need to discipline ourselves in diving into the net or else we might drown ourselves in the ocean of unlimited info that our minds crave for. When my laptop was in the hospital for 4 months , i was without a pc on hand, i was internet free! and i found out that there is still a world beyond the net.Now that i am employed , i really need to have time management for the net , for my hobbies and for my dear beloved partner.

I know! When I was traveling, I didn't have internet for 3 months and I felt perfectly fine. Now when I get back, it seems to me that me and my computer are not separable!

if i could spend all day online im sure i would. but i dont have access to the computer during the day, its in the bedroom and the man of the house works nights, so he is asleep during the day. which is probably a good thing lol. i usually get online at 9pm..then stay on until about 4 am. i actually get quite a bit of reading done during that time considering. im still on dial-up so while i wait for pages to load i almost always have a book in one hand to read while i sit here. otherwise i get too frustrated and then eventually get mad and give up..which doesnt earn me any money!

I'm finding myself in the very same situation right now. Yesterday I got another book from the library which I intend to read. Not to mention the other books I've started and still haven't finished them. They're three and now with the last one and considering that I won't have time next week - I'm in a vicious circle. I should stop for a while with the Internet, although that I do my reading here for whatever I find nesessary, and take some time for my other hobbies.

I only allow myself so much computer time each day. I answer 10 posts then I go and do a chore. When it is completed I answer 10 more posts. When I cant find posts to answer I read for 30 minutes. I also watch movies occasionally.

You're really disciplined! I am never like that! But there is something important to do, I would finish those stuff first before getting online.

Like you, I am putting some thought into walking away from the computer a little more often. There are many other interesting things to do!

Yes, I almost forgot how much I loved to read! I read mostly Chinese books now (leisure and fun ones) because I do think I have enough English things going on online *laughs*.

I need to devote some time to doing some housework, it's a jungle in here! I have to pick a few hours each day to deliberately not be on line so we can have food for supper and some dishes done, too. Take care

Yes me too! I need to pull myself away to do some other stuff, otherwise, I would end up here fixing things online all day!

I wish I would get my face out of the laptop and go and read a book! I love to read and really enjoy it when I sit down and do it but my problem is finding a book that can keep my interests through the whole thing. A lot of times books bore me in the beginning so I dont even finish them. I wish I would stop doing that.

In the past year I have found myself drawn more and more into the world of web and the outside world is slowly disappearing*laughs* I too have slowly but surely let my other hobbies fade into the background, these being reading and also cross stitch which I absolutely love. I am definately becoming more and more obsessed with getting online and something has to be done about it!! So I now make myself have a certain set time each night where I do at least an hour on my cross stitch and I am slowly starting to claw back some reading time because I love to read and I am missing a whole world of books at the minute!!

That is a good idea. I am obsessed with being online, but I do a lot of reading as well. I also have a lot of books that I have that have not been read, so I need to work on that!

Online time for me is mostly for a relaxing remedy when I have free time, or for business affairs. Maintaining my other passions has always been one of the most important things in my life. It is illustrated in one of my favorite quotes by the poet Tennyson: "The happiness of a man does not consist in the absence but in the mastery of his passions." I usually use that for motivation every time I find myself getting too caught up in less important things in life and tend to (usually) have an easy enough time cutting it out if it is not adding anything positive to my life...
