Would you donate your Bone Marrow? Why and why not?

A friend's friend of mine was diagnosed with Lymphoma (Cancer) and desperately need bone marrow transplantation. Hearing that news, I immediately went down to the donation center for a blood test to register myself as a donor. The odds of a match is 1 in 20,000. This makes it very difficult for my friend's friend to find a bone marrow. I earnestly pray for him to be able to find a suitable bone marrow soon and recover. I am a regular blood donor and am not afraid of needles and pain. If it's God's will, I hope my bone marrow will match his or some other patients'. I've seen on TV before that it's painful to donate bone marrow. Some people are not willing to donate due to the fear of pain. Some people have the misconception that donating bone marrow will affect their own health. There are some who are willing to donate but are unable to do so due to medical reasons. You? Would you donate your Bone Marrow? Why and why not? P.S Fellow Singaporeans, after reading my post, if you wish, you can drop by NUH or SGH to register yourself as a donor. Thanks =D

"Fellow Singaporeans, after reading my post, if you wish, you can drop by NUH or SGH to register yourself as a donor. Thanks=D" This is a very heroic thing you do here. It is a painful procedure, but with todays medications pain is controlled. A healthy normal adult can replace the bone marrow in their body with out trouble so this should not be a fear. If you are in doubt, there are very good websites online available to you for information. When you realize you are giving the gift of life and time to some person who is so very deserving of this chance, the pain itself is unimportant. Poohgal Good luck to you and your friend. He/she is very lucky indeed to have you in their corner.

If it could help save someone's life and it wouldn't have any healt effects on me..then yes I think I would donate. I mean if there is something that you can do to help save someone else's life and it not hurt you in the least bit(except for the pain to donate parts of your body)then I say yea you should. That would be like someone was standing on a train track when a train was coming and you could go and get them off of the train tracks and it wouldnt hurt you but you just let them stand there....

I would definitely donate if I weren't risking long-term affects. My bestfriend has stomach cancer and he might need a kidney transplant, so I'm always telling him I'll fly to BC to do what I can. I mean I know it's not the same as donating Bone Marrow, but hey.. if he needed me to do that I would. Though it's very hard to find a match. I think it's great that you went down right away to get tested. I hope for his sake that you're a match. Goodluck. xo

You are a very kind soul. Your friend is lucky to have you. Not many people are willing to donate organs and yet you are willing to donate your kidney to him. That's very kind of you. If anyone needs my kidney, I will want to help too. I hope it's a match too. Thanks for sharing. =D

I think bone marrow regenerates, so yes I would be willing to donate mine to a friend, family member, or relative who needs it.

Absolutely! I don't think I would even have to be asked. Its the least I could do for a fellow human being. I'm sure that they give you pain medication, and anyway isn't it worth it to save a life? My prayers are with your friend.

Hota is an agreement that u will donate all your organs when u have passed away =D hehe.. Everyone in singapore will receive the form when they pass 21yrs old de.. BUt no matter wat, there's no harm in trying to go for the checkup to see if my bone narrow suits him :)
