Why is it so hard to find a grant?

It seems like the only way to get a grant is to pay one of those services that tell you where to find them.
I've tried looking on government site, but it just seems impossible to find out where to go, how to write requests or whatever they are called, and the whole thing is just frustrating.
If there is so much free government money out there... it would be nice to get some without having to pay for it.
Does anyone know where you can go to get the answers without paying for them?

That is a great question, I been trying to find oput the same thing to, i found this site that is suppose to be free. www.grants.gov, but trying to get it grant is hard because everyone wants money
