A couple of years ago my husband was taking a lunch break. He is a Police Officer & works in the city centre. Whilst walking along during his break, two Japanese tourists approached him. It was near Easter, & they wanted to know exactly what the link between Easter & a rabbit. They actually had a list of questions they referred to. My hubby is not strong on his Christian & Easter knowledge & stumbled his way through some vague explanation. It seems these tourists decided that because he was a Police Officer, he should know the answer. Evidently hubbies explanation didn't make sense, & he was somewhat embarrassed, so he eventually directed them to a nearby Church.

Okay... now that you mentioned it... i am Catholic and i attended Egg hunting parties... but i still do not know the connection between Easter and a rabbit... Rabbits don't lay eggs... so that thought made the topic more confusing... and i can't in anyway find the link between the two... the Bible never mentioned about a Rabbit... even in the story of Noah's Ark... So i hope you can enlighten me with this one... thanks in advance...

Sorry, I can't enlighten you. I did give this some thought, but nothing very obvious comes to mind. I mean rabbits dont even lay eggs!

Thats quite a funny story and to be honest if someone were to ask me i would probably say the same thing. I have no idea what Easter and rabbits have to do with each other. I admit i may not be strongly religious but i dont think there is any connection between the two.

Now that's funny. Ask a cop anything and expect them to know the answer. I am not sure but I believe eggs and rabbits are used as they symbolize a new beginning as in spring etc? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Wattle & mud hut - A Wattle & mud hut was built by our first convicts & early settlers.
But how does a rabbit symbolize a new beginning? They dont even lay eggs. It's all very confusing. Funny how some people think the police should know everything!!

Cute story. I suppose I can see why the tourist would assume a police officer could explain a 'local' custom & not get that Easter isn't something all American's celebrate.

This was in Australia, but we celebrate Easter much the same way as US citizens (but probably less religiously).

That's pretty funny. I think that the Easter bunny is another example of a Christian Holiday that coincides with a more ancient celebration. I think the rabbit and eggs are symbolic of fertility, but I'm not sure about that. It is kind of confusing trying to fit in the Resurrection of Christ with the popular Easter customs.

The eggs and rabbits are symbols of a new beginning in spring thus I think the signs towards ressurexction maybe? And to think I am a Catholic and not too sure about this. HAHAHA! Go figure. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Ahh, so it's the fertility issue. Not sure why a rabbit would be chosen.
