How does MyLot choose what is a 'Top Discussion'?

As far as I can tell, Top Discussions are not chosen on their popularity or number of responses. Most of them actually have relatively few responses. My theory is that discussions are checked for the 'keywords' they contain. If you are not familiar with the value of keywords in a website, I mean the words that are most used in search engines and the words which are 'bought' most avidly by advertisers. Since MyLot's revenue (with which they pay us) is derived mainly from advertising, it would make sense to favor the discussions which have a high proportion of well paying keywords because those words are certainly used by Google, eBay and others to decide what ads you see. I notice, too, that eBay's ads very often relate to things in my list of Interests. Do you have any thoughts on what makes a Top Discussion and how we can help attract good paying ads so that MyLot's (and therefore our) revenue increases?

I was wondering this myself as some topics I have seen on topic discussions really are TOP because they aren't getting responses. I have also noticed that when you tag discussions they become more vaulable. SO maybe you are right on the money with you theory. I am sure we won't get an answer for sure but at least what you are saying makes sense. If this is the case, My thoughts would be that we should spend more time picking our keywords and being as descriptive as possible. We should probably also start discussions that are capable of having multiple tags.

I don't about keywords, this is the first time I read about it. What I have in mind about Top Discussion means that responder viewed that discussion many times.
