From Australia to the American Midwest

Evidently the Lot is updating or something right now and I can't get into any discussions, as the pages are coming up blank, so I'm going to present a discussion that I've been thinking about. Nothing heavy, just coincidental. I've noticed that virtually every one of my women friends here on the Lot, whether in Australia, Serbia, Canada, or right here in the good ole American Midwest refers to her husband by the term "hubby". I find that to be delightfully funny and ever-so coincidental! I've always referred to mine as 'hubby' and never gave it a thought until I kept seeing it here too. One wouldn't think that it would be so universal a term, but it obviously is. Why do you think that is? And what are some other odd little terms we all have in common? Can't wait to see your answers!

Usually this glitch or server maintenance or whatever you would call it does happen every end of the month, mylot is tabulating our earnings and doing some "discussion clean-ups" to as it upgrades. Well I am not from an english-speaking country, so our terms of endearment would sound pretty weird if I'd some in our language for you guys!;) But sometimes, couples would call their other half as Papa/Mama and Dad/Mom. Also, mom's would pertain to their better-halves as the "eldest" of all her children..

Waswit - meaning sweet Pangga/Mahal - meaning love Giliw - meaning yearning intent love Sinta - meaning love in a high affection There are more of them, but I'm not that good into using different languages from different parts of our country..

Hi, Raijin! So glad you chimed in here! And, Raijin, aren't Mom's better-halves their eldest children??? lol Our husbands are always our biggest babies - isn't that why we love them so much? And I would really love to hear some of the terms of endearment that you use. You've got me curious now.

THANK YOU, my waswit pangga/mahal! Those are so beautiful. I have written each one in my book along with my other Lot info on some of my favorites here. I shall try to integrate some of them into my daily life. They will enrich my speech by leaps and bounds.

Good Afternoon Nova :)))) I think its because of the way we talk and share with each other. Today it might be hubby, tomorrow it might be A$$hole :)) I think all of us use that one on occasion also :)) Ethnic and regional boundaries just can not inhibit womens understanding of each other and the language by which we describe our lives :)) We know what we know because we talk to each other!

Angel, you touched upon something I hold so dear and that's how women can talk with each other. We can somehow tell each other the most intimately personal things and do so freely and without fear of judgment. And yes, ethnic and regional boundaries don't come into play. I am mystified by this but I love it so much and it enriches my life beyond words, as you have with your response, friendship and love.

I have heard it said and read it, that men could live with out male company, but women would wither away with out feminine companionship. I believe that Nova. I think it goes back to when we lived in caves and women had to group together for the good of the entire clan. One group providing day care, one group preparing food, yet another group mending and making clothes. We can not do with out the soft touch or voice of female friendships.
