Agree with my discussion or suffer an unspeakable keyboard spanking :P

I am not copying a discussion started by someone else, this is simply a matter of great minds thinking alike. But I have to add the cynical part to mine. So forgive the title is was for humor purposes only. The questions I am asking are these: What makes you decide to respond to a discussion if you completely disagree with what the poster has written? Do you always comment discussions you don't agree with or are them some that are just so far off of your beliefs that you walk away without leaving a remark? How do you feel when someone disagrees with something you post? Do you get angry and go on a negative rating spree, or do you enter into a friendly debate with the commentor? Do you feel strongly enough about your discussions to defend them or do you post discussions hoping someone will be able to change your way of thinking by their comments? I'm just curious. I've noticed that when I first started posting discussions the majority of the people would write about their personal experiences and explain why they agree or disagree with what I had written. Lately though I am noticing more and more people agreeing with everything I write. It gets a little annoying. I like to hear other peoples opinions whether or not they agree. As long as they can voice their opinion and be nice about they should not be in fear of a keyboard spanking.

Mornin' Cyn! Welllll, in "the discussion", when the first stupid remark was made, I found myself immediately jumping in and typing my little fingers off in defense of our friend. It's the mother lion thing. Not that our friend needs a mother, mind you, but I can't stand idly by and see a friend maligned like that, you know? Then the ball was rolling, and I sure rolled with it, along with some of my more articulate friends. But ordinarily, I have to care a lot about a topic to get into the fray. If I didn't, it would be simply an exercise in futility. And I'd never post a discussion simply to have my mind changed. Talk about an exercise in futility! I'm as opinionated as they come, as you yourself are, and changing someone else's mind is one thing, but never my own! Please! And disagreement in discussions adds flavor and spice and I love it, but you , as you say, can disagree without making an a$$ out of yourself. Now, what I want to know, dammit, is why the hell you started this thing in the first place?!?!?!?!?! Dammit!

Yes yes it's all my fault. :) I couldn't agree more. Changing someone else's mind is one thing but changing mine....never gonna happen. Good morning darlin.

If the discussion topic is on interest, I respond even if I totally disagree. That's why we call it discussion. The only ones I walk away from are the ones where I know controversy will be created and I don't want to be arguing. I don't mind putting things in a different perspective and doing it nicely...sometimes it's only a person opinion and no one needs to feel very strongly about it (but some people do). I don't give a negative rating unless someone is being abusive and has been warned once (if it's a discussion I started). There have been instances where my way of thinking has been changed after reading a few responses....things that I had not thought of or considered and I see no harm in that. Maybe most people agree with your discussions because they only respond to discussions that they agree with. With certain people attacking others with a different viewpoint, I think peace loving mylotters tend to stay away from discussions that they disagree with.

Peace loving myLotters. That's funny. Actually what is funny is that I am friends with some of those. Opposites attract I guess. :) Thanks for your comment sweetie!

No I don't neccessarily agree with every discussion I respond to. I respond to what interests me and if I disagree, I try to do it respectfully so their are no hurt feelings and no disrepect... and no I don't fear a keyboard spanking, lol...I am used to General Hospital sites, particularily my own) where discussions (for free, imagine that, lol) get pretty heated over certain characters and we have great rules about actor bashing & poster bashing. It is simply not tolerated. But that by no means says you can't disagree with someone! Debates can be fun and I am not one to back down from one.

Well here I come in for my keyboard spanking.LOL!! You know I love ya right? I will comment on just about anything that I feel that I can comment rationally if it's something that is to close to home and I might not be able to see both sides I avoid it. I like a good debate but only one when I'm open minded about the situation I don't set out to convert anyone to my way of thinking I set out to hopefully talk to people that agree and disagree with me that way I can give and recieve knowledge. Some where some one had stated that knowledge is power. I tend to think with more knowledge you'll be able to better decide on the situation it might make you more set in your beliefs or you might end up seeing the other persons point of view it really just depends on the poster and responder. Thank you for another good discussion.

Sometimes I can't walk away from a discussion that hits me close to home. I try but I just can't. I may even get up and leave the computer and go do something else but I ultimately end up coming back to it and by then it is even worse if my blood had started to boil over something I read. Kind of like yesterday.

I never rate anyone negative- unless they get mean and nasty- generally the name callers. Even if I disagree with a discussion I still express my beliefs because the subject interested me and I felt I had something to say. I like friendly debates in the hopes we could all maybe learn something about another side that we may not have known before. I never ever fear a keyboard spanking- in fact it's good once in awhile.

So far I have never gotten a keyboard spanking. I've given dozens, never got one though. I'm beginning to feel left out. =( I have only had to uncontrollable urge to rate 2 users negatively and one of them wasn't even in one of my discussions. Even being cynical and outspoken I can even see where the line is in being opinionated and being down right mean and nasty.

It really helps to learn how to take it all without blowing up with anger just because some comment happened to go against your principles. These things happen all the time, and no one can really please everybody. But with most people agreeing, I do see that quite a bit as a writer. Here's my theory: maybe they do agree, but they never held that level of understanding to that particular idea until you had mentioned it. There are a lot of things that we can respond to with approval, but most of those things are not something we may have experienced seen, or felt. Maybe it is like turning on a switch in someone's brain. Besides, there aren't a lot of people out there who want to be the "minority".

Oh honey, I'm ALWAYS in the minority it seems. Which is fine with me because I like a lot of elbow room. :) I really like your way of thinking. You just earned yourself a best response. I hope to see more of you in my discussions.
