The devil made me do it

It's strange how some folks believe that someone, or something in this case, is responsible for their own failings. There's a quote from Neil Gaiman's Sandman series I liked a lot that goes something like this: "Why do they blame me for all their little failings, They use my name as if I spent my entire days sitting on their shoulders, forcing them to commit acts they would otherwise find repulsive. 'The devil made me do it' I have never made one of them do anything. Never. They live their own tiny. lives. I do not live their lives for them" -- Lucifer, The Sandman, Seasons of Mists Perhaps sometimes it is easier to live with the guilt, if you can pin it on something else. But the problem never goes away, its there as long as you try to hide it. Facing up to oneself is tough, not everyone can do it. The only path to happiness, however, lays right through it.
