Would you have any doubts in performing CPR?

If assuming you have already taken the CPR course, and have successfully passed the standards of training... Would you have any doubts, in performing CPR to a person who needs it. Don't you have any doubts like fears of diseases or any concerns that may hinder you from performing such acts? If given the proper protective equipment like the pocket mask, or face shield, gloves etc... Will it give you more willingness to do the procedure?

i have taken the course but it's quite long ago, maybe more than 6 years already. i can perform cpr on a dummy but like someone said, my first time in a real life situation, i'd definitely be scared and nervous. not only that, i'd have to look into other aspects of the injury too like maybe internal bleeding or bruises or head injuries which i'm not good at. i don't think giving me proper equipments would make me more willing or give me morale as it's more of an internal feeling for me rather than materials and all. i definitely wouldn't be thinking of diseases for sure as i'd be too nervous that i might actually do something wrong and make the situation even worse.

You are right. Well at least you had taken a course. Anyway, if you have taken the course before 2005, there is already a new procedure on the ratio. I will be coming up with a blog on it soon and give you the site so you can visit it should you be interested. Take care!

I have not taken a course but assuming that I had, I am not sure how I would act if someone needed me to help them, I would either go into automatic and just do it or I would stand there and think can I, should I? But I definately think a factor that would stop me helping would be protective equipment, if I didnt have any I would be very reluctant to help, just in case.

Yes, we always have this fears of diseases and that is normal. Nobody would want to have a disease right? Well, CPR is a good thing to learn. You can never really tell when somebody has a problem and at least you can do something just in case. Goodluck!

talking about doing it may give me a bit of anxiety and self doubt - but if in an emergency situation I think something takes over and you just do what has to be done - you do not think about it so much as just do it, that is what is great about rote or routine learning, that habit can take over where your emotions may have otherwise interfered.

Yes, I agree. That is why I think it is important really to practice not only on the CPR aspect but also on the things we do. Life playing a sport or doing something technical. Once you do practice, you can easily do this things sort of a routine work. The only difference most likely with cpr is this involves life and there will be more pressure. Must have been the reason why you have to renew the card from time to time to insure that you do not forget, and it would just come out as a routine.

There is always a first time. If I'm performing it for the first time, of course I have fears of what might happen. Protective equipments doesn't guarantee that a person performing cpr is exempted from doubts and fears!

Yes, I do agree with you. For most of the first time that we do some things it is always accompanied with some doubts and fears. With respect to CPR there is much greater fear since there involves life. Even if we have the training, we will still feel fear and doubts. But at least with more practice, we may lessen up the fear since practice may give us confidence.
