If you came to China, what do you think it would be like?

I've been in China for about 6 months now and I have to say it's completely different than I imagined it would be. I never realized that I would experience so many beautiful and ugly things all in the same place. When I'm teaching or walking through downtown Xiamen, I wonder what other people think this country might be like.

I have been to some places in Asia like Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. I imagine the people there are friendly in China and that there are many sights to see. Beijing is the capital so it has many famous sites that I have seen photos of. I imagine all the cities are busy with many tall buildings. On the outskirts of the city I think there must be many apartments where the people live. In the countryside I imagine that it is quiet, peaceful and very beautiful. I would love to go there and walk along the Great Wall. By beautiful things I think that you might mean nature, views and old buildings. By ugly things I think that you might mean messy areas of town where there is rubbish, ugly looking buildings and unsightly looking stuff to do with industry.
