What do the stars above your name mean?

Hi I was wondering if someone could tell me what the star means above your name. I currently have a yellow star with the number 8, not sure what that means.

The star by your name is your mylot reputation or your mylot rating it is how others have rated your posts. There are 3 buttons by all of your posts a + - and ! for postiive, negative and to turn you in for breaking the rules. The more postivies you get the higher your star will be the more negative you get the lower your star will be the highest star you can get is a 10 the lowest is a 1. Users get thier star when they have reached 100 posts.

wow i learned something new from this discussion. i have been wondering for some time ever since i joined recently but always forget to ask. grins. thanks everyone from my part too. hehehe you answered my thoughts too.
