If the child is ready for potty training it's not. Children will let you know when they are ready. Before I started potty training mine I always took them with me when I had to go and let them sit fully clothed on their potty while I did my thing. My oldest child was potty trained by the time she was 16 months, however my next to youngest just turned 3 and she still isn't completely potty broke yet. They also tell you not to pressure them into it because they won't go forward but they will go backward. So offer positive encouragement at all times. Best way I found was have them go with you then slowly introduce them to the idea. Don't give candy or other sweet treats for this because then the child will expect it at all times.
