In my house there is always that dreaded question "Whats for dinner?" No one ever agrees! i moved in with my parents a yr ago to take care of my mother because my dad works alot and need help cooking, cleaning taking my mom to the doc,and she falls ALOT!!! Anyway my parents are very picky and only like mexican food and for me its to heavy. They feel becuase i am mexican that is all i should eat and they don't like what they call white food! So it is always a problem. Dose anyone have this kind of problem? If so how do you cope?

Tell them you're dieting - eat SMALL portions in their presence and then "pig out" on the grub ya love when they're not around. But to be that demanding or passionate about something like food- it sounds as though perhaps they are trying to send an alternate message - perhaps they think you are not embracing your heritage enough. Most are like that and it really is important - I'm one of the "white" ones, lol, but culture and heritage have alot to do with our human makeup. And it's important to retain this for yourself and them.

I do not have that problem but I can see your parents are afraid you will lose your mexican heritage so maybe you could sort of compromise a little and tell them you will make some mexican food and some food that you like and if they will eat just a little of your food then you will eat just a bit of their mexican food. I have some mexican friends who do the same thing they cannot eat what they called gringo food
