Holey socks, Batman!

It seems that all of my favorite socks get holes in the heels. This time of year, when it's cold, I really need my socks to keep my legs warm. My favorite socks, though, have holes in the heels. Well, at least they did until today. I finally went and bought a package of eight pairs of socks and I love them - white socks with pink on the heels and toes, my new favorites. To make them fit in my sock drawer, I pulled out I don't know how many pairs that I've been wearing despite the holes in the heels. Now I have a pile of socks that are perfectly good on top - but with holey heels. I'm not going to darn them (does anyone do that anymore?) but I hate throwing things away, even holey socks. So, what do you do with your socks that have holes in them?

I have these favorite socks that I wear, In fact I have them on now. They are thick and very cushiony, but only go up to the ankle. I wear my son's tube socks and very rarely buy socks for myself, except for the one's mentioned first. For some reason I too have a collection of socks, been saving them for years and never wear them....the tops are all stretched out, some have holes, but not all. I think the idea of using in the garage and/or to dust my furniture is a good idea. Darn socks? I don't think I will darn those darned socks! One of these days perhaps I will go through my vast collection and weed some undesirables out.

I have a pair of my son's tube socks in my drawer, too, that I wear sometimes. Actually they're soccer socks, so they go up nice and high plus they're thin enough to put some cushy ones on over top. There are still more in my drawer that ought to go, but I did good to make room for the new ones, so that was a big step for me. I'm a "keeper" (sounds better than "packrat"), what can I say!

My problem is I stay so cold that usually one pair of socks is never enough. My sister got me a pair of real thick slipper socks several years back for Christmas and I wear those over my socks....cold feet, warm heart :) Yes, being a keeper sounds much better than pack rat. I think we are all keepers in more ways than one :)))

Throw them socks in the trash, you don't need holey socks. I will tell the truth, I have some holey socks too that I need to throw in the trash. Forget about darning them, hehe. I am sure some people still do that. Good going on getting new socks.

Thanks, Polly. You can't imagine how hard it was to go and spend five dollars on socks. That's all! Should have done it a long time ago. (Guess I'm just cheap, but I prefer to call it frugal.)

I often use my old socks that have holes in them for dust rags to dust the furniture..They take furniture polish well and make good cleaning rags too..Like when you clean your lavorory, and wipe things dowm like bathroom tiles or cleaning the car, wiping off the inside of the car..old socks i know work well for all those small projects...

When my husband got home last night I showed him the pile of socks. He definitely wanted to keep some to use for his chores with the car, outside or in the garage. I do like to use socks for dusting, as you pointed out. So, we'll be keeping the best of the holey ones, adding them to the rag basket (which I probably should clean out and throw away because it's going to be overflowing!). Thanks for the suggestions!

Sounds like we have the same kind of socks! Pink heel and toes! When I moved last August, I went through all my socks, and most didnt' have holes in them but they were REALLY thin - hole well on the way. So when I packed to move, I tossed them all that were "thinned" and once in my new apt. I bought 2 packages of crew socks - pink heel and toe - and they are so nice!

Yes, it does sound like the same socks, and I love mine! They're so much more comfortable than those old thin ones. I didn't realize what I was missing!
