And my second. I finally purchased the 2 domain names that I needed for my p1d business. They stress the importance of purchasing an easy dot com name so that it is easier for your customers to find you. Also so your link is not so long either. I purchased them at godaddy. Does anyone else own their own domain?

Not just crazy, but SMART too! If you're serious about being successful online, you need to establish your presence and promote yourself. I own 3 domain names myself. Two dot.coms and one dot.ws. I don't do the forwarding thing though. I actually get them hosted and create personal webpages. Cheers, Ed

Thank you. I am using them for my new business where I already have 5 websites. Only 3 of them are up and running at this time though. 2 of them are working well and the 3rd is supposed to be completely fixed by the 8th.

trinale, how much do you pay for hosting? I'm currently working on a website I will put on on my birthday arriving soon, however i dont know any good hosting options for when ive bought my domain. What would you suggest and how much do they charge? The company you use, are they reliable or any known issues you've had with them? Im young but am going for a pretty professional site.

Thanks. I would never of done it if it wasn't recommended. They say that it is easier for people to remember. I can believe that. I will post the links on my blog at some point. They have to be redirected first.

I bought my very first domain name in October 2007. I don't remember which site I went through, but it doesn't matter. lol. I have a .ca domain, and so had to pay extra money for it, but being in Canada, it was important for me to have that ending. For me, it's not a business, but a site in memory of my son, and celebrating his life and the lives of children. I'm not sure I'm ready to share it here on mylot, but if I do, I will link it from my profile in the future. I was so excited when I bought it... I joked about it too, "not only am I the master of my domain, but I'm also the super administrator". (if you're a Seinfeld fan, you'll laugh at the reference lol).

Hi Amy. Congrats on making your first domain name purchase! It's great having your own right? I own 14 myself :-) Did you get a hosting plan too? I really enjoy being able to host my own website because that way there is so much more freedom than having to use another service.

Thanks. No, I am using them for my business sites. They will be redirected to those sites. I did think about the blog hosting tho. It seems that people make more off of their blog if they host it themselves. Don't you think.

Yeah. The most successful blogs I have seen are self-hosted and they use WordPress as their CMS (content management system) which is pretty versatile. It really helps having your own dot-com address for branding purposes.

I used godaddy. I like them and I know where you can get some coupon codes if you use them. You can get your domain for $6.95 instead of $9.95. It took me a long time to decide on the 2 I did purchase. I kept searching on there and would write down the ones available. I was trying to find the best possible ones.

I've heard of people having problems with GoDaddy. I've always used NameCheap for domain name registration. They charge $8.88 for each domain name. Ed

Yeah, I acutally own a few but there are only a couple of those that I currently use. I also purchase them from Godaddy however I wanted to buy some .ca domains and have to go to another provider for those. I agree, it makes it easier for people to find your site as opposed to a generic link that ends in your username. Plus people are learning, if they are going to find any type of success on the net (especially in direct sales), they need to brand themselves with a unique website. Buying a domain name relevant to thier business will provide this unique identity.

can you tell me how much do you purchase the two domains and what is p1d? They are right, buy a short domain is important. the value of domain name is its meaning. on the basis of the meanings, the more shorter domain name is ,the higher the value of domain is.

Yes, I bought 3 last year but I used the same company name for all 3. It just ends in .com, .net and .info. My business doesn't heavily rely on the net, though. I'm in real estate. I also used GoDaddy for the domain name and they also do the web hosting. Pardon me for this ignorant question, but, what is p1d business?
