Food From China: Do you know where your food comes from?

I am so beside myself right now. I went to Wal-Mart to buy groceries, and I went to the frozen fish section to get salmon. I pick up the package and on the back it said " distributed by Wal mart" I said "hmmmm; what does that mean?" Well on the other side of the package the words: PRODUCT OF CHINA were written! Can you believe that we are still getting food from China after all of the recent recalls? Why on earth are we getting salmon from China? WE don't need to!!!!! The other things I found were the candy canes at Christmas were either product of China or Mexico. I am just stunned that Brachs, Spangler and Bob's are all making their candy in Mexico. I called the Hershey company to thank them for making their candy in the USA, (as their brand was the only one I could find made in the USA) and the customer service rep let me know that even Hershey is moving 10% of their candy production to Mexico. I promptly let her know that I would be one less customer for Hershey. I have since done extensive research on this subject and what I have unearthed is astounding! Just to give you an idea of how wide spread the consumption of questionable product from China is take Vitamin C or citric acid added to many foods, suplements etc. 80% comes from China! Folic Acid, this goes into baby formula among other things: from China. I could go on and on, and our government shot down the bill that would require companies to disclose where the INGREDIENTS they use come from. So where does that leave you and I the consumer? At the mercy of those who really don't like us. How much of this stuff is really being checked out? There is no way with the volume of things arriving from China daily that those products are checked for safety. Do you trust food from China or Mexico? Why are we not eating our own salmon? Why are we sending fish from the US to China to be processed and then shipped back to the US? Gosh I am so angry right now. Do you think that we can overreact to such things? I don't think so, and I say buy American!!! Don't reward these companies that do these things! Let our congressmen know we are not happy. I know there are so many people who can not afford to buy American, but try to pick certain things that you will only buy American made. This is not even a drop in the bucket on this subject of just food from China, I am not even addressing other goods from China.

By our government, you do mean the Congress who is full of Democrats who believe that the Communist Chinese are our friends and will do no harm? Okay I am not an American, but live in Canada, and we are going through the Chinese are our friends and will not harm us and yet toys are being recalled. We buy tinned salmon all the time - the Cloverleaf brand among others and we thought it was made in Alaska. I have not checked the fish at Stupidstore - correction -Superstore, nor at Safeway, but I think from now on, I should. Our Canadian government leans more to the left than youjr American government and all of us should be concerned to try to buy more goods manufactured in North America above the Rio Grande and for those from countries who are favorable to us, not from a country that still harbors a hatred for our way of life.

Yep, those are the folks I mean. I did not know how bad it was in Canada until I encountered a woman from Canada who said that Cod was coming from the Japanese! I am sorry, but there is NO excuse for that! Cod should never come from anywhere else when you live in Canada! I am definitely looking at what we buy and really trying to buy from the US or Canada.

I remember when I was a kid, we got Native Totem Poles in Vancouver, B.C. made in Hong Kong. Now we get food from China and it is not the Chinese food we used to get in Vancouver's Chinatown. I mean people are losing jobs, having to work part time, typing on myLot to make money,:) so that some corporation can give more money to their shareholders and play footsie with an enemy country. Why even some of the Chinese here do not care for us Westerners. You go to the Chinese district and the food they feed us is different from the food they serve to the Chinese, so there is a looking down on us.

I am always wary when it comes to food from China since I have heard quite a lot of horror story about its safety, quality and other things. I hope China would do something to make improvements on certain areas so that others would start trusting their food.
