What is it with dogs and Crayons?

When I was a little girl, I remember my dog (golden retriever) would go crazy for crayons. I mean, if we left the crayons out, she would steal them, and eat them. Once she scarfed down an entire box of crayons! Okay, now as an adult, I have 3 dogs, and 5 kids. Crayons are a part of my daily life, with so many kids. One of the dogs, has always been a crayon thief, so I always do my darndest to keep the crayons away from him. Now suddenly, one of the other dogs is after the crayons too. I caught her actually stealing one out of my 8 yr old daughter's hand! So, my question is, what the heck is so appealing about crayons to dogs? I mean, really!

OMG! This is too funny! My dog does the same thing! I am always on to my son for leaving his crayons on the floor. The minute my back is turned my Lucky steals one and runs down the hallway trying to make a break for it. I don't know if it's the wax or the paper, or what it is. My dog is not particular either, she'll eat the crayolas as well as the ones from the dollar store. Maybe they are just looking to put a little color in thier meals, however, it's not only thier meals that the crayons color if you know what I mean. I am often treated to picking up rainbow colored poop!

lol, well, I'm glad that I'm not the only one with crayon addicted dogs!!! In fact, I found this morning, 6 crayon papers, minus the crayons... Guess I will be on the rainbow poop patrol! :o)

I don't know what the attraction is. We had a dog who ate crayons every chance he got, although the ones we have now don't seem to bother with them. He also loved to chew up the boys' little plastic army men. They had an army of legless, headless soldiers with chewed-off rifles.

lol all those poor beheaded plastic army men... :O) Hmm so your dogs now don't like crayons? I wonder why some love them, and others could care less....
