This week marks the 30th anniversary of what they call the Storm of the Century in Boston, MA. It was a week I'll never forget. In 2 days 27.1 inches of snow fell and the tides were over 15 feet high. I lived very close to the beach and had the pleasure of seeing these tides and I have to say they scared the hell out of me! My son was 2 years old at the time and I remember taking him on a sled to the local Stop & Shop only to find the shelves just about empty. Cars were covered to their roofs and we didn't even know when we were walking on top of them. I lived in a first floor apartment with windows that were basically on the ground and we couldn't even see out because the snow completely covered them. Have you ever experienced a snow storm or blizzard this bad? What are your blizzard or snow storm stories?

Did the snow storm hit the D.C. area that year too? I remember a huge blizzard where I was home from school but I don't remember the year. I remember my mom telling me that she had to get my dad from the bus stop because the buses weren't working. There was plenty of snow and back then I loved it. Snow meant no school. My friends and I played in the snow and had a good time. I think it was 78' because I lost my dad in 79.

It probably did hit DC that year also because I know PA got it pretty good. Now that's when a snow storm was a snow storm. We don't get anything near this any more.

I have never experienced a storm or blizzard like that. Most likely I never will, as I live in Adelaide. What you describe is truly amazing? I expect no one could go to school or work, no public or private transport. It would have been a nightmare.

Nobody could go to school or work because they weren't even open for a week and some even longer than that. The best transportation at the time was our feet and sleds.

I was 14 that year, and we got quite a bit of snow too as I recall in Pennsylvania. Then in April of '93 we were hit hard. My youngest daughter was almost 3 at the time, and after we dug out the sidewalk, and I wrapped her in her snow suit and took her outside, it looked like she was in a huge tunnel of snow.

My sister lives in PA and was also there at the time. She had some funny stories to tell us since her kids were small too. She also sent us some very funny pictures.
