Mine I would have to say is this picture, note it's hanging on one of the walls of the room I just finished painting this weekend. For those who wondered about the 'light lavender' you can see it next to the picture.
So, what's so great about this bargin? Well, my husband at the time and I bought this for $25 at a starving artist sale. The frame cost us over $50. I'm not sure why I like it so much, some people think black velvet is tacky but these two dogs have kept me company for over 30 years now.
What great bargin have you gotten that has turned out to be special to you?

The only thing that comes to mind is my afghan blanket, I got it at a thrift shop when they had their bag sale. I got this soft and warm blanket along with whatever other things I could fit in a brown paper bag for 3.89...
By the way, I love the picture and you did a great job on painting your room.
I would like to paint my bathroom that color..:)

Wow that is a great bargin - considering I'm selling baby afghans for $40 ($50 for a blanket and pillow set). Tomorrow I was planning to post a picture of the custom order set I'm finishing up right now - 2 shades of purple.
As for painting your bathroom that color - good luck, I mixed a total of 6 different colors together and came up with this by accident. I really thought it would be more blue but I'm thrilled with this.

Yes, my afghan, being that it was full size, was a great deal...
As for the paint, I think it is awesome, I may not get the exact color, but close to it and I have been wanting to change color in there for a couple of years now..:)

Well, purple is my favorite color, any shade at all but the light in this room has doubled since painting and I am sooo very glad I did it.
I just finished a full sized afghan last weekend and will be putting it up for sale for $75 it's crazy but someone will buy it and think they got a bargin :) just a matter of finding the right person.

My is a uniquely shaped plastic bottle I found on the beach. I picked it up and bought some straw flowers to put in it and gave it to my girlfriend who became my wife. After 32 years, she still has the bottle on display in our bedroom. The straw flowers have faded and crumbled away to nothing but the bottle remains.

Oh how romantic - I'm tearing up just thinking of it. You know that lady loves you if she would keep a plastic bottle as a special momento. And a great bargin for you, free plus you got the girl :)

My most recent bargain was purchased only last weekend,.
We needed about 8 metres of 90% green shadecloth. I calculated that it would cost about $200 (and that was including the nails & fasteners).
When my hubby took it through the check out, they charged $55. He queried this, but the check out person said it was $55.
I am positive they made a mistake, but as my hubby did query it, we didn't make a fuss.
It was a great bargain as far as I am concerned.

Well, I'm not sure what green shadecloth is but going from $200 down to $55 is certainly a bargin. It does sound like they made a mistake but at what point does your responsibility end - do they expect you to stock shelves, price, check out and everything else too.
We had something similar happen this past summer - we were purchasing items for the craft buisness. We had estimated spending about $400 on the things we were getting that day, including a grinder that was almost $200. The clerk rang everything up and I questioned the total. She then filled out some paperwork for a class I was going to take for which I would need the grinder - at this point my business partner questioned her and again she said yes she got the grinder. When we got home I was putting the items into inventory and guess what - the grinder was NOT on the reciept. I still feel badly about it but my partner said it was their mistake to leave it alone.

Mo it really does bother me and don't think I'll rest easy until it's straightened out. Problem is I don't have the money to pay for it, we have used it, and my partner isn't coming up with the money :( I feel like we stole it.

that is a tough call there, faith. my conscience would bother me as it sounds yours did a bit too - but then there is the trouble that the cashier would be in for not having rung it up even when brought to question about it - she would likely loose her job.

I love that picture! my mother bought some original art while in Ecuador - she got them at an incredible price, I can not think of the artist's name right now but his whole family were artists, but he was the very best . only he rarely did artwork, he only painted when he was down and out and needed the money.
my folks recently sold most of those pieces except for one, my favorite.
It is a black velvet painting as well - an old man and an old woman, the woman is lighting his pipe, there is so much tenderness in the portrait and a snice effect of the glowing light upon the black velvet.
Growing up with that portrait it seemed as though the couple was a part of my family, I guess I day dreamed about them imagining their love for each other, how many years they suffered and rejoiced side by side, how gentle he was and how serving she was.
I will have to take a picture of it next time I take a vacation to Mom's

Your Mom's picture sounds darling and the way you discribe it I can almost picture it in my mind without even seeing it.
I don't know anything at all about the artist who painted my picture, the signiture is so faint you can't read it at all. Maybe that's part of the attraction though - it's a secret I'll most likely never know but I still love it.

I have purchased several oil paintings at auctions that I am thrilled with. However, I recently bought a milk bottle at a sale that is from the first company that my grandfather ever delivered for and he drove a horse and buggy at the time to deliver the milk in so it has a lot of meaning to me and I have looked for one for a long time.

Oh wow what a special find for you that has got to be special and I'm guessing also worth some money if it's from the horse and buggy era.

I cannot go past the bargain I got !!
I am referring to my wife CARMELA.
She has proved to me over the years that
I made the biggest bargain ever in marrying her.
I am now 77.
She not only cooks well, keeps house immaculate,
but is a wonderful friend and confidant.
I thank GOD every night for such a wonderful find.

Well you are very welcome and I thank you for sharing your bargin with the rest of us. What a wonderful story that you met rather late in life but have had 22 years together. Hey, there's hope for me yet - I'm only 52. Do you have a single younger brother by any chance?

Now that is something I've always wanted and have never seen any place for sale - a flower press just like you said, one of the old ones.
What do you do with the flowers after you press them?

Hi Faith. That is a nice picture you got there. And its with you for 30 years? That must be a treasure by now already. :D
Well, the favorite bargain item I have is a painting of the 7 horses. It is hanging on our living room. I got it at a department store when it went on sale. It is 30% less or off from the original price. Many say that the painting of the 7 horses brings luck.

I've never heard that before, that 7 horses are good luck but I love horses, no matter how many were in the painting I would love it. 30% off is a good bargin for a painting.

well, your post got me thinking along the lines of art, so i guess my favourite bargain is actually quite a recent one. I bought a large oil painting for a street stall in vietnam recently. It depicts some trees in autumn and are a lovely hue of orange and red. it is hanging in my living room now and will be very special to my husband and I because it is the first painting that we have chosen together for our home.

Oh your bargin sound lovely - I love paintings, maybe it's the artist wanna be in me. I have over the years dabbled in painting but have never produced what I would call a work of art, something that someone would treasure.
