i donated my car to charity about a year ago when it died and i still have the old license plates. i no longer own a car and i don't even live in that same state anymore, but i'm not sure what to do with the plates. i'm nervous about just throwing them out because i feel like they'll wind up on some stolen car and then i'll get in trouble. is there something you're supposed to do with your old license plates? what do you do with yours?

We donate ours to a local business that makes purses with them. It's something new around this neck of the woods, but interesting. I have seen several people even carrying them. I guess you could say it's a trend. Another friend of mine hangs them on his wall, for memories I guess. He doesn't have a family or isn't married so it's a bachelor pad. There's always something you can do to recycle almost anything.

thanks for the suggestions. i almost considered hanging them on the wall, but i don't think they quite go with the decor ;) now that you mention it, i have seen purses made out of license plates - i'm going to check in my area for a place that makes them. or maybe i should attempt to make something crafty on my own!

I think I know what purse company you're talking about, as far as I know there's only one. I love them, they're so cute and original but cost hundreds a piece so I don't have one yet.

Some folks have collections of various License Plates. I use them to patch the holes in other cars. Like on the floor pan.
