I never had an AMD... But I had an Intel... and I have been very happy with it. Both the motherboard and processor were intel... and they were faster than any other computer in the same range. I never had a problem with this computer. Actually... it is in the backroom and still working after 8 years.

I have a similar experience with intel too, very satisfied. Just I want to buy a laptop and found that one that has AMD processor in it is cheaper. So, before I buy I want to know about the quality of the AMD processor...

I don't think that there is anything wrong with AMD. If my memory serve me right... it was very popular with gamers 3 or 4 years ago. But it has been my experience that no matter what you buy... cheaper means cheaper product. No one is going to sell you something cheaper if it is as good as the more expensive product. Unless it is on special. That is a fact.

AMD is preferred for gaming mostly because base models are cheaper and faster than intel . if u r heavy user u should go for intel. intel centrino core 2 duo is the best processor. intel 965 chipset offers u a lot of power saving features which will increase your standby time on battery. it can control (slow down when idle) clock speed, FSB, Screen refresh rate of LCD and thereby save a lot of power. some drivers and software can also create problem with AMD processors and associated nvidia chipsets . some latest nvidia chipsets does not have drivers for windows xp as they are designed for windows vista.

prior amd processors is much bettter than intels, but current intel processors are much better than amds. I mean, core2 duo is much better than AMD X2, and core2 quad is much better than AMD phenom. As for notebook processor, AMDs are much more heat than intels but intels much better than AMDs. I must suggest you to but laptop with centrino duo technology (with intel core2 duo processor). good luck!

as a technician and as a warehouse in charge in computer parts base in my experience intel is the best processor of all times because it adopt all kinds of software and it is very easy to install. and regarding to the durability intel is more durable than amd.
