I began having hot flashes early last year. It snuck upon me all of a sudden. I dealt with it for a few months, not sure how to deal with it. The night sweats were terrible. Then I began taking garlic capsules because it is good for cholesterol and heart. Within days of taking garlic, I realized I wasn't having hot flashes and night sweats any longer.
This past week, I started having hot flashes and night sweats again, and I was still taking the garlic. I thought to myself at first, maybe I need to take more garlic. But then I realized that I had ran out of my multivitamin and then bought a multivitamin with iron in it. This is when I realized that this was the problem. Since I haven't had a period and there is no blood loss, then I don't need the iron anymore. So now I need to go get a multivitamin without the iron.
Well, I hope these two suggestions helps others that deal with the hot flashes and night sweats. Please share your remedies that you have for Hot Flashes!

Part of the reason you are having so many symptoms is because you are going through the change at the young end of the scale. The younger you are when you start, the harder it is on you. I on the other hand just stopped everything one day and have not had any major symptoms. It is almost as if I never had a cycle. I have had maybe 3 hot flashes and no night sweats. And my cycle stopped over a year ago.
Good genes. Everyone in my family stopped late and had few to no symptoms. There is an over the counter cream called memopause that some of my friends have used that they say is miraculous. It is soy based I think and you can get it at Walgreens. All of them say to use half as much as recommended and it works great. It comes in a white tube. I had to pick it up for one of them one time.

Adoniah, you are very lucky and it does not happen this way to very many women and the reason that you are lucky is that your progesterone level has never dropped which is highly unusual! If you would like to learn more, got to www.johnleemd.com and look around and learn! It is a great site!

I've never heard this one but have for years known that garlic is good for a number of things so not surprised.
Ahhh the hot flashes I've been almost 15 years with them but the night sweats were the worst for me and am so thankful they seem to have subsided.
When I have it available I take soy tablets and those help with both.

I'm at the beginning phase of it, but glad that I have found remedies to minimize them. I will keep the soy tablets in mind though.

Well, aren't Hot Flashes wonderful? I hate them and a lot of times wish they would go away forever. But a lot of times lately, mine are Few and Far between, which is nice. I am using a product by the mangosteen plant that has done wonders for me in a lot of ways, and since I take this everyday, it helps keep my hot flashes and a lot of other issues minimal, or at bay. It is to the point now, that if I forget a day, I know it.

Mangosteen is a great product but if it has not totally stopped the hot flashes it might be because you are low on progesterone. Go to www.johnleemd.com and learn what low progesterone levels can do to a women! Also if you would like to read my story go to www.nomorehotflashes.myarbonne.com Thanks, I hope this helps!

Hi terry, aren't hot flashes the life? Oh my goodness, I heard my mom and grandmother talking but had no idea. I have been drinking soy milk, and that seems to be helping. Soy is very good for you and contains a natural estrogen, thats is believed to lesson some of the menopausal symptoms.

Thank you so much for posting the link to this discussion elsewhere! I never thought of garlic and they have pills that don't make you smell bad. I will go get some today, I can barely go an hour without hot flashes and I've been going through this for 9 years! I was on premarin till a couple months ago when I ran out--I've moved cross country so I don't have a doctor yet and I'm not sure I should be taking hormones with all the possible side effects and long-term consequences.
