how do you organize your photos?

With the revolution of digital photography organizing your photos has become a lot less easier. Although we now have less of physical photos, I have a problem with having an abundance of back-up CDs and photos uploaded online with photos sites.
I'm trying to figure what's the best way to organize all my photos (i try to back-up monthly and compress my pics so that I have less 'stuff' regarding CDs).
The problem I have with online backing up (for free using photo sites) is that when your account goes inactive they do delete everything. I'm just really paranoid about losing my pictures, and also about how to consciously pick and choose what is worth uploading and keeping.
What is the best way to organize your digital pictures?

whats the best place to buy an external hard drive?

I also had to buy a secondary harddrive and I organize them in catagories and then subcatagories ie FamilyDennisJacob or StockNatureFlowers. It does take time to set them up but after that it is easy to put them where they belong and to find them. Good luck.
