I think it's very hard to make a real friend at work for a few reasons. I think most people are more reserved when they're at their job and you can't show your real personality. I also think that they might find something out that could hurt you professionally. Maybe they know that on Thursday night you have bowling and you like to drink. Then one week, you call in sick on Friday. They might feel like they have to tell the boss it's because you drink on Thursdays. I think the workplace is a good place to form friendly relationships, but not full fledged friendships.

I think we can make true friends in our professional lives. I have made real friends at work. I know that I'm always excited to work when I know we'd both be there. It just makes work a little bit more bearable. And even when we have moved to other jobs we have kept in touch and are still good friends. But I know how it can be destructive. I have made friends with one of my co-workers before and we really hit it off. We love to do the same things like try out new restaurants and watch movies. However, when we were at work, when she gets irritated or overwhelmed she tends to raise her voice a little bit. And I was not spared. Sometimes I get affected. Most of the time I just ignore her and we go back to being cool when we get off work.
