Is anyone on here making money with ebay? Or have you found a better or cheaper auction site? I would like to see a site that has auctions you can view by city.

I sell on ebay, started off really well, just began by selling things around the house. Because I was doing so well, and because I am a stay at home mum, I thought I could contribute to the families finances by buying to sell, so I just bought a few things and again did really well. Then I was told that if I was buying to sell I had to go self employed, so I did that, and since then it has gone downhill!! Dont get me wrong still getting customers and everything but I am now spending more out than I am actually making, which is no good. So now I have to review my situation and see what I can do about it.

Be sure you keep reciepts on your expenses, there are so many things you can deduct tax wise. All the fees should deduct as well as shipping supplies and if it is set up right and you use a seperate room your internet could possibly be deductible. ( there are rules of use percentage as well)

Thanks for that, I do keep all my receipts for every little thing and keep much of it written down. Thats a chore in itself as well, keeping books! I have no business skills or anything, something that started off as a hobby is actually quite hard!

I just started selling on Ebay. I tried several bids for my Southwest Art magazines, having seven bids open for seven days. I did not get one bite. When the auction ended, I again put the items for bidding again, for seven days. Still no interest. I don't know what I am doing wrong, but I am a little disappointed. I thought people would like to see beautiful photos of the southwestern United States and read about the cultures and artists in that region.

From my own experience I have found that seven day auctions normally do not do well at all. And a lot of people on the eBay forums will agree. Five days seems to be the best fit for most items to draw in interested bidders.

Your content might be better served on lulu. It is a online publishing site and it doesnt cost you anything. They publish it and take a commission. Its www.lulu.com and there is no referral system so I am not just trying to make a buck... LOL No offense but you always wonder if something is actually a good thing or if someone is trying to make money off you.

I stopped using eBay a whole back because of all the fee increases and such. It was making it hard to earn a profit if you were selling low cost items. With the recent fee reduction though I have considered picking it back up again since I did average about $200-$300 a month after costs. I am also interested in any other good auction sites that are out there. I have heard of a lot of people moving from eBay to Amazon lately, but not sure how well that is working out for people. Does anyone here use Amazon?

Books would be a great item to start out with on eBay. Plus you don't have to worry about pictures since you can enter the books UPC code and eBay will bring up a stock photo and description to use. Also, with books you can use Media Mail for shipping which is a whole lot cheaper then the popular Priority. I do recommend that if you start to sale a lot you invest in some Tyvek bags. There a lot cheaper then buying packaging supplies from a mart store and you can order then direct from some really good sellers on eBay.
