What do you think of the novels he has set in Edinburgh?

I read the no.1 ladies detective series first and as I am from Edinburgh bought the sunday philosopher's club thinking it would like it too. I didn't in fact I hated it. Is this just me or do others feel the same? Maybe it's because I am from Edinburgh so maybe someone from Botswana would hate the no. 1 detective agency but like the Edinburgh ones?

I felt exactly the same way about the Edinburgh novels. Well novel actually as I could only bear to read the one Dalhousie story. No give me Mama Ramotswe anytime. She takes us to a time and place when life was simpler and people knew good from bad. There is no violence (although there is the odd hint of malevolence) she is no nonsense and has an honest and straightforward approach to life. I am not so keen on the radio plays though. The lead actress doesn't sound how I picture Precious to sound. But I suspect that books turned into films or radio rarely do.

I only read one as well and that was a struggle, glad it's not just me. I've never heard the radio play, it doesn't sound very good. It'll be interesting to see how good the tv movie (I think its a movie rather than a series) will be.
