response in a discussion or just the ones that you thought were particularily good (or not) as the case may be? Was just wondering what you all do? Anyone out there care to share? Thanks in advance for any responses to this, I am just really curious about this!

For a while I was rating all good. Unless the discussion is just a total useless garbage I see no point in giving anyone a bad rating. I have not given anyone a bad one. Of course I frequently forget to do it at all.

I rate almost every post in my own thread, I give them the benefit of receiving positive ratings from me. I leave those posts that are irrelevant, report and remove those which are offensive and abusive, then leave the rest untouched since I really don't rate negatively unless I was forced by a responder. Rate those posts or discussions as well, this will also remind you that you've been to that certain post already so you can also avoid it in case you've forgotten that you've been there before already.

I will rate all the ones that are good, whether they agree with me or not. But I don't rate single sentences - its all about discussion

I asked crash a question regarding this rating thing and this is what she/he says. Let's take your example where a member goes around and rates all of your discussions negatively. This behavior is tracked and noticed, and that users ratings are rendered virtually worthless in our system. Not only will their ratings become irrelevant to you, but their ratings will become irrelavent to any dicusssion in the future as well. Internally, we call this "trust". In a nutshell, certain members can be trusted with their pluses and minues. Others cannot. Some "trusted" raters are more trusted than others. Etc. etc. The best way to ensure a high star rating is to stay out of poor quality discussions. Those tend to get rated negatively by a higher number of people. Rated! So in answer to your question, I will not continue to rate all the responses and discussions I see. Because I don't want my ratings to become worthless. I was rating all the ones I could but I will not continue to do so.

Thanks so much chrislotz! I have decided also to do this after reading Crash's response. I wass rating all and even with a possitive rating for each, I do not want to be rendered worthless, either. So I will rate only the ones I feel truly deserving, and stay away from others. Glad to know others are taking Crash's comments seriously as well!

I rate all the responses in all my discussions if they are of good quality. If they are just one or two liners I don't rate them at all, since I don't give negative ratings. I only rate positives so I can't always rate all of them. I rate all the discussions that I respond to, again always a positive, but I do not rate other peoples responses to that discussion. That would just take too long, to read all of them and rate all of them. I only read about 3 or 4 other responses to a discussion just to see if they have the same ideas as me, as to what to say in my response.

I rate the answers on the responses I get to keep track of them. Then I always know if I already read the post. I try to rate the answers from other questions too, for the same reason so I know if I read the answer or not. I don't give minus too often only when WELL deserved.

Yup, I always rate everyone who posts positively. They deserve a positive rating just because they posted. Be careful with the negative rating because it effects your rating negatively as well. I always give a positive rating when I respond as well.
