have an impact on how we feel? Some days I think it would be better to not turn on the TV, listen to the radio re: the news, or any other form of reporting as there seems to be so much sadness going on, horrific crimes taking place, people passing away, the media amd their antics all in the name of their job! etc. etc. Does it all get too much and do some of us take it all on board? I think I have heard life is like a roller-coaster, not liking them myself, maybe it is why I feel the way I do at the moment. It all seems so overwhelming sometimes, and one wonders why we have so many people suffering from Depression!

soapbox Smiley - Smiley on soapbox, gif
yeh I know how you feel, I feel so frustrated sometimes when i see some things that are going on that I cant do anything to make it right, even when it comes to starving children the only thing that seems to be able to make a difference is money the one thing I don't have a lot of, as far as crime is concerned i just can't understand how people can't feel the pain they cause, maybe it is my upbringing to walk in another persons shoes that makes me feel for everything I do, animal cruelty, this i will never understand how people can be so cruel to beautiful animals how can people let them go through pain, they feel pain like we do....I don't buy newspapers any more because i can't stand to see what is going on and not have the power to do anything...lilaclady steps off her soapbox.

caramello claps as lilaclady gets down! Well said, of course and the cruelty that is inflicted on not only people but animals also, one wonders what makes these people go to these lengths. In the prisons a lot of the prisoners have used the reasoning for their crimes as they were treated badly as a child........so that is like a cop out to me!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, I feel so humble for such an applause, yes I think the way one is treated as a child is a cop out also in fact i think it should have the reverse affect.... back off the box :)

The reverse affect I would have thought would result also, but does not seem to work for everyone it seems.

I do notice that if there is alot of aggrivation on MyLot or if there's alot of bad things in the news I tend to want a comedy movie in the evening and I find that I need to get away from my pc sooner. Some things online hit me really hard. Like a post I just responded to about a boy that ran over a dog...now I am feeling upset about the dog dying. I'll probably take a break from here for a while and then come back. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

yes i agree that all this bad news has an effect on our lives.i tend not to listen to the news now.i think it really has an effect on our childrens lives as well.as they are seeing and hearing things that i would rather they did not and how do you explain these things to them.i remember when the world trade centre was hit,my daughter was 12 at the time, she would not travel on a bus or train in fear of something happening to her,it took me months to get to travel to school on the train again.every where we went she would ask, would they get us here.its hard enough to protect our children, but when it is on t.v every day it is impossible not to get depressed.cheers sue

I agree with you completely. Because of what we see happening everyday, we become very jaded. We aren't our happy-go-lucky selves that we once were.

It definately is refreshing for me not to watch TV. I used to not have a choice about watching TV, if my parents turned it on I couldn't not eat dinner with them just to avoid it, though i was tempted to try a few times. I don't miss TV at all and in fact I love my family and love going home for breaks, but I dread the TV every time, it's like as soon as I walk in that box is on and I'm like, NOOOO I don't need that thing, NPR is good enough for me, Oh and Yahoo bulletins.
