Could Nail Polish or Acrylic/Gel Nails Hurt Babies?

Recently I was watching some talk show and they had a woman on there that was accused of poisoning her child with acetone. Obviously she was denying it, and to be honest I didn't watch the entire show to find out if she was guilty or not, becuase I was watching it while the commercials were on for the show I was really watching. Anyway it made me think.....you have been hearing that on the news lately, I think there have actually been a few women accused of poisoning thier child with acetone. Acetone is found in nail polish remover, but it is also found in smaller amounts in nail polish and most likely in fake nails as well. I wonder if it is possible for a child to absorb chemicals from nail plosih or fake nails in the instances where a soother is lost or not available and the mother will give thier child thier finger to suck on instead. Could these mothers be unknowingly exposeing thier babies to toxic chemicals in the nail treatments? This may be somehting that mothers should consider. I wonder if nail product companies even do tests to see if sucking on a finger with a fake or painted nail could have any harmful effects?!?

I dont know if sucking on a finger with nail polish would really poison them but who knows. I dont wear nail polish but Im sure people do it. I know you shouldnt put nail polish on your child. They make fake nailpolish for children and that is what should be used if you want to paid your childs nails. I used to love using that stuff cuz it peels right off your finger and its so fun to peel it off your fingernail..lol am i wierd?

Any Mother that puts nail polish on a tiny baby or fake nails on a baby is an idiot and does not deserve to have a kid. Nail polish and fake nails can destroy the nails of an adult, just imagine what it can do to a baby. The polish and nails suffocate the nail. Nails actually "breathe". They need oxygen to pass through them to stay healthy. That is why people start getting fugus and nasty looking nails when they use fake nails and polish too much.
The chemicals are absorbed right through the skin and nails of even adults just imagine how much more so through the thin skin of a baby. Yes, these Mothers are poisoning their babies and they out to have enough common sense to know better. The fumes alone should be telling them not to do this to a baby.

YOu need to read a little more carefully before you react and get upset. In no way was I implying that babies should wear nail polish or fake nails. I was referring to nail polish and fake nails on the finger nails of the Mother's hands. Many Mother's get thier nails done. Then the mother handles her child, and the child's food and things, and also many mothers with put thier own (the mother's) finger into thier kids mouth if they are teething or missing a soother.
